Aaron Rodgers Wants Out of Green Bay: Aaron Rodgers told the Green Bay Packers he doesn't want to return, ESPN reported hours before the NFL Draft. The San Francisco 49ers called Green Bay Wednesday night. The weirdest line in this story: "Rodgers also has hosted Jeopardy! and said it would be a dream to become the full-time host."

Olympics Will Punish Athletes Who Protest: The International Olympic Committee plans to punish athletes who protest at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, claiming that 70 percent of the athletes agree with them. "We believe that the example we set by competing with the world’s best while living in harmony in the Olympic Village is a uniquely positive message to send to an increasingly divided world," the committee announced. Because there's no better way to demonstrate harmony than to ban disharmony.

LaMarcus Aldridge Retires from NBA Over Heart Ailment: After experiencing an irregular heartbeat, Brooklyn Nets center LaMarcus Aldridge abruptly ended his 15-season NBA career. Aldridge joined the team two weeks ago after taking a buyout from the San Antonio Spurs. He's a seven-time All-Star. He called the heart problem experienced during a game "one of the scariest things I've experienced."

MLB Gets Minor League to Move the Mound Back 1 Foot: Major League Baseball is playing around with the idea of changing the distance from home plate to the pitchers mound for the first time since 1893. The Atlantic League minor league will test a pitching rubber 61 feet and 6 inches from home -- an extra foot beyond the norm. Alex Rodriguez, Mark Lore Buying Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx: A $1.5 billion deal is being finalized for Alex Rodriguez and billionaire Marc Lore to buy the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves and WNBA's Minnesota Lynx from Glen Taylor. There are fears the new owners will relocate the team to Seattle, but so far there are reassurances that won't happen, according to the fan blog Dunking with Wolves.

Babe Ruth's Letter to Mistress Auctioned for $200K: A letter Babe Ruth sent his mistress arranging a tryst at the Aldine Hotel sold at auction for $201,000. Ruth sent the missive in around 1922 to Nell Wilson, who he was seeing while married to his first wife Helen Woodford. "She is watching me so don't get mad and I will see you Monday night," Ruth wrote.

Mets Win With Questionable Walk Off HBP: The New York Mets elbowed the Miami Marlins for a 3-2 victory on a hit by pitch. Michael Conforti extended his elbow and his pad was lightly grazed by a pitch that would have been strike three. Batters are required to get out of the way of a pitch but that wasn't enforced.

Former NFL Player Suspected in South Carolina Mass Shooting: Former NFL player Phillip Adams is allegedly the person who shot and killed a doctor, his wife, their two grandchildren and another man in South Carolina before taking his own life, a police source told AP. Adams played 78 games as a safety and special teamer for six teams after being a seventh-round pick in 2010.

ESPN Strips Paul Pierce of Pundit Gig: The best part of Paul Pierce being fired as an ESPN basketball commentator is the part of the Instagram Live video where he compared the backside of one of the strippers to "two Boston Celtics championship trophies." One cheek is Pierce's trophy from 2008, but the second can't be any more recent than 1986.

Topps Going Public Again: Fourteen years after it became private under former Disney CEO Michael Eisner, the iconic baseball card company Topps is going public by merging with a special purpose acqusition company (also known as a SPAC, a concept I only understand because I read Matt Levine). Interest in baseball cards and Topps has heated up because of non-fungible tokens (NFT), a new way of creating unique collectibles that requires the blockchain and an obscene expenditure of electricity.

Baylor Bears Win First NCAA Basketball Championship: Eighteen years after taking over a program rocked by scandal, Scott Drew led Baylor to the NCAA championship in basketball over Gonzaga. It's the school's first and the state's first since Texas Western (UTEP) won in 1966. Bears guard Jared Butler had 22 points and 7 assists and was named the tournament's outstanding player.

Jets Trade Sam Darnold to Panthers: The Carolina Panthers have acquired quarterback Sam Darnold from the New York Jets for a sixth-round pick in 2021 and a second- and fourth-round pick in 2022. Darnold, the third pick overall in 2018, threw 45 touchdowns and 39 picks in three seasons. The Jets never put much around him but he had a league-worst 40.1 QBR last season.
