Does anyone have a link to a Japanese language broadcast feed of any portion of Hideki's final round at the Masters? I'd like to give it a listen.
His win was certainly monumental, but with all the attention being paid to the historic nature of the achievement, Koreans must be feeling a bit discounted by the lack of references to Y.E. Yang's victory in the 2009 PGA. Yang had to fight off a powerful challenge from Tiger Woods to get that landmark win, yet Yang was a distant footnote at best in the golf commentary this week.
Matsuyama has come through twice with inspiring Masters play at critical moments.
In 2011, he was the low amateur at Augusta days after the devastating Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. His recognition at the tournament provided a much needed morale boost to Japan, as did the national women's soccer team's victory in the Women's World Cup a few months later.
In 2021, with all the Asian hate going on in the US, it seems providential for the Masters to have crowned its first Japanese champion.
