Los Angeles Rams Release Todd Gurley: To avoid paying him $10.5 million in guaranteed money, the Los Angeles Rams released star running back Todd Gurley. In his five seasons with the team, the 25-year-old Gurley rushed for 5,404 yards and 58 touchdowns, leading the NFL in touchdowns in 2017 and 2018. He's tied with Marshall Faulk for the most rushing TDs in team history. Gurley's production waned last season and doubt increased about the health of his knee.

NFL Players Approve New CBA Through 2030: The NFL Players Association voted to approve a new collective bargaining agreement with the league that extends through at least 2030. The CBA expands the regular season to 17 games and expands the playoffs from 12 to 14 teams, among many other provisions. Players still aren't getting 50% of league revenue. It bumps from 47% to 48.5% after the 17-game season begins.

West Ham Exec: Declare Season 'Null and Void': West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady said the entire English football season should be declared "null and void" -- the first tactic proposed by a top-flight side all season that could plausibly deny Liverpool its first title in 30 years. U.S. Soccer President Resigns Over Sexist Legal Strategy: The president of U.S. Soccer resigned Thursday after the organization's legal filing in a wage discrimination suit with USWNT used inflammatory sexist claims to denigrate female athletes. The news follows an announcement Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for coronavirus Wednesday night. Josef Martinez Tears ACL in Atlanta United Opener: Atlanta United striker Josef Martinez, one of the top scorers in the league, suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during the season opener against Nashville FC. Martinez collided with a Nashville defender in the 63rd minute, returned to the match and went down again four minutes later. He'll need surgery and could miss the entire season.
