Texas Rangers Had Half a Billion Burning a Hole in Their Pockets: The Texas Rangers spent $500 million this week, signing shortstop Corey Seager to a 10-year, $325 million deal and second baseman Marcus Semien to a seven-year, $175 million deal. They also signed starting pitcher Jon Gray and outfielder Kole Calhoun. "they should be commended for not taking the nihilistic route frequented by fellow cellar-dwellers like the Baltimore Orioles," writes R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports.

Florida Fires Dan Mullen: Dan Mullen is out as head coach of the Florida Gators after losing 9 of his final 15 games. He was set to begin another five-year deal at the beginning of 2022 -- a deal reached this year -- but will instead have only the solace of a $12 million buyout. Florida lost to Missouri in overtime Saturday 24-23 after getting the ball at their 29 with 1:04 seconds left in a tie game and making no attempt to get into field goal position, keeping it on the ground in a 3-and-out.

High School Students Target Female Goalie with Vulgar Chants: An estimated 50-60 students from Armstrong High School in Pennsylvania abused their opponent's female goalie with two vulgar chants during an Oct. 28 game. The repugnant behavior -- which wasn't stopped by coaches, refs, or parents -- has resulted in a ban on students from the school attending games this season (aside from siblings of players sitting with parents).
