Buffalo Sabres trade Jack Eichel to Golden Knights

I guess we get to see now whether the "locker room cancer" narrative has any merit. Vegas has had pretty exceptional chemistry since day 1. If that continues once Eichel starts suiting up, it would sure seem to torpedo the Sabres characterization of Eichel. Not that they would care.

Isn't Las Vegas going to be in cap hell next season? Getting Jack Eichel will help in this regard how?

Trade is puzzling from a Vegas standpoint. Tuch was one of their top players on an amazingly cap friendly contract. And they give up Krebs who is still developing and basically making the league minimum for the next 2 seasons. In return they get a single player counting twice as much as the 2 he is replacing who has a very serious injury and a less than stellar reputation. Looking at the cap breakdown the Knights are starting to look as badly constrained as the Leafs with 5 players accounting for half of their payroll with 3 of these being No Move contracts. Yikes.

Yikes indeed. I see cap killing deals like those and it serves to remind me that the Hurricanes were right not to match New Jersey's deal for Dougie Hamilton. The dude is going to dominate for the next few seasons, but that contract is going to kill them after that.

Getting a GM job in a hard cap league has got to be some sort of deal with the devil. "Oh sure, you can be a GM in a pro sports league, but it will be in a hard cap one. LOLOLOLOLOL"
