Liverpool win Premier League: Reds' 30-year wait for top-flight title ends

I am a casual fan of EPL (at best), as I try to follow and support MLS's growth in the states. As Liverpool has clinched the championship, will some star players now do "load management" similar to how NBA players take a couple games off per season?

MLB owners and players agree to a 60-game 2020 season

I loathe thinking this, but I would be surprised if the planned MLB "regular season" does not get cut short due to public pressure if Covid19 x regular seasonal flu hits hard in a couple months.

Discovered the story of Peter Norman this morning: Australian 200m sprinter in the 1968 Mexico Olympics who stood with two black Americans on the victory pedestal. Forever after, he was shunned by the AUS sports community. Norman wasn't invited as part of the Australian delegation for the opening of the 2000 Sydney games, but the US invited him to attend as part of the US delegation..

Quite the number of Confederate battle flags get flown at Daytona and Talladega, it would be great to see that symbol disappear from the racetrack crowd. On the otherhand, those flags were easy identifiers of what tailgates to avoid.

Odell Beckham should be used as QB more often...Plus he can kick FGs. Some guys are scouted as "athletes" coming out of college, but Beckham is the best example of an ATH in the NFL since JJ Watt took snaps as a TE and caught a couple TDs a few seasons ago.

P.S.: JJ Watt was robbed from 2014 league MVP thanks to a historic season by Aaron Roger;, Watt had something like 20.5 sacks, 1 safety, 1 INT returned 80yds for 1 TD, and 2TDs off of forced fumbles. On offense, 3 catches, 3 TDs.

John Urschel Goes Pro in Mathematics

"I have, or had, more math talent than football talent," Urschel tells me. "I fully believe this." But the world is on the lookout for football players. His coaches at Canisius, an all-boys Jesuit high school, continually encouraged him to think big, bigger, biggest. If he worked at it, he could play in college. He could play in the Big Ten. There was a chance he could play in the NFL. From his math teachers? Zero. That changed at Penn State, where Urschel enrolled in 2009 to study math and play football. (He was offered a full scholarship to Stanford, but turned it down; he had already committed to PSU.) If you believe in the ideal of the student-athlete you are going to like the story of John Urschel in college a lot.

The Hot Seat is just lukewarm now

There is absurd speculation in central FL that Willie Taggart (USF coach, 10-2 this season) is being looked at for the Oregon HC position. Seems little more than idle speculation by sports radio hosts to get callers on the phone to talk about how absurd that HC move would be.

In other FL NCAA coaching rumors, I can't express how glad I am that Jimbo Fisher is sticking around at FSU. Here's hoping that Fisher sticks around as long as Bobby Bowden did.

TB Lightning has their home season opener tonight! For the last week, the local sports radio guys have been on a tear, lauding team ownership and management about being able to not only attract top tier talent, but to retain it over multiple seasons. The Lightning's ability to resign free-agents provides stark contrast to the other Tampa Bay pro-sports franchises, where top talent becomes plundered by other prominent franchises (TB Rays losing David Price, Ben Zobrist, etc, come immediately to mind).

Many local hockey fans assumed that we would lose at least two of three of the Lightning's top players (of Stamkos, Bishop, or Kucherov) in the offseason! This could be our year to bring Lord Stanley back home to the 'Bay :).

The closing ceremony of the Olympics was such a better performance than the opening ceremony, IMO.

As a whole, I was disappointed with how the Summer Olympics were covered in the USA -- how much swimming can American audiences withstand? Even after the swimming medal events were completed, swimming managed to stay in the news cycle because of Lochte. If one went by merely what was televised, then one could assume that the only genres of summer Olympic events were "Swimming & Gymnastics" & "Track and field."

On the other hand, Women's soccer only garnered mention because of Hope Solo's unsportwomanlike comment, after-the-fact of the team's loss, and anyone interested in exciting but lower-key events like the Rugby 7s had to seek out sketchy internet feeds.

LeBron James Wants to Own an NBA Team

With career earnings exceeding $1.3 billion so far, it's a viable goal.

Wow! I knew he had lucrative contracts, but whoa.

what's that worth in salary savings and increased franchise value?

If he was serious, he could reasonably approach a private equity firm to do a leveraged buyout of the franchise at a favorable rate... The value-add of him playing for the Pelicans before retiring as a full time owner would make a good ROI right from the outset.
