Hail to the Washington Commanders

The practice squad players should be known as the LTcommanders

Hail to the Washington Commanders

A commander in the US Navy would not command a large vessel or unit; usually it would be a destroyer or smaller warship, an aviation squadron, or a small naval station.

Nailed it. "The Captains" would also be a decent name, have an okay abbreviation in "Cap'ts" or "Caps." 06 definitely has more sway over assets and personnel. I can't help but feel like this is a step backwards from WFT, but perhaps the Commanders have a capable marketing and advertising team to sell the new brand.

Accidental Bill Belichick Text Messages At Center Of Brian Flores Racial Discrimination Lawsuit Against NFL, Giants

The Miami Dolphins owner offering Flores 100k per loss in order to improve the team's draft position. One owner attempting to influence and throw the games.

Combined with the NFL embracing sports gambling.

It would be extra interesting if the Miami district opens a criminal investigation over these allegations.

Accidental Bill Belichick Text Messages At Center Of Brian Flores Racial Discrimination Lawsuit Against NFL, Giants

The timeline of events based on the texts is pretty damning, plus the sloppy and lack of professionalism by the Denver interviewing team... Yikes.

I hope Flores does not settle before discovery (or settles at all!) and this leads to more discoveries on the hidden side of NFL franchises.

Tom Brady Retires

Makes me sad as a Bucs fan to see the TB12 era end, but I'm glad it happened. Watching the Buccaneers transform from the Sucs to an NFL powerhouse made everything else in 2020 a lot more palatable. I have a picture of Tom Brady warming up at Raymond James Stadium for a 2012 preseason game. If someone told me then, that TB12 would be a Buccaneer in 8 years, there would be 0 chance I would have ever believed them.

Catching up on off-ice drama surrounding my Lightning, and I saw that some in the Hurricanes' fanbase were mad over how the Lightning were able to build their roster. The Lightning have been circumventing the salary cap all season long. The St. Louis Blues have been too, as have several other teams. However, not all cap circumvention is illegal. The LTIR has always been a way for teams to circumvent the salary cap.

Nevertheless, I am glad to see Nikita Kucherov skating again.

That is a dominating performance by a punter. Similar to when Michael Dickson (Seahawks punter) was named MVP of the Texas Bowl after a highlight performance of:

Dickson punted 11 times. Ten of those kicks were downed inside the Tigers' 15-yard line. Four of Mizzou's drives started inside its own 10. When the Aussie did finally get a chance to show off his big boot, he blasted the ball 58 yards. And one of his punts even set up a third-quarter safety.

One of my favorite parts of yesterday's marathon Lightning vs Blue Jackets' game was how the stadium crew had a "7th inning stretch" graphic ready for the break in 4OT.

Korpisalo set the modern NHL record with 85 saves; he was under siege for over 6 hours.

It was the 4th longest game in NHL history at 90:27.

Excited for the return of sports! Baseball has been interesting. There has been some /facepalm-worthy errors in last weekend's games. The rust was evident in some of the "Not Top Ten" plays, but also.. these are professional players who have played baseball their whole lives.

Hockey starts up soon and it looks to be a whirlwind of games ahead, here's hoping the Lightning get on a hot streak and win the COVID Cup. Last year's early post-season exit still smarts to a degree.

Odell Beckham should be used as QB more often...Plus he can kick FGs. Some guys are scouted as "athletes" coming out of college, but Beckham is the best example of an ATH in the NFL since JJ Watt took snaps as a TE and caught a couple TDs a few seasons ago.

P.S.: JJ Watt was robbed from 2014 league MVP thanks to a historic season by Aaron Roger;, Watt had something like 20.5 sacks, 1 safety, 1 INT returned 80yds for 1 TD, and 2TDs off of forced fumbles. On offense, 3 catches, 3 TDs.

John Urschel Goes Pro in Mathematics

"I have, or had, more math talent than football talent," Urschel tells me. "I fully believe this." But the world is on the lookout for football players. His coaches at Canisius, an all-boys Jesuit high school, continually encouraged him to think big, bigger, biggest. If he worked at it, he could play in college. He could play in the Big Ten. There was a chance he could play in the NFL. From his math teachers? Zero. That changed at Penn State, where Urschel enrolled in 2009 to study math and play football. (He was offered a full scholarship to Stanford, but turned it down; he had already committed to PSU.) If you believe in the ideal of the student-athlete you are going to like the story of John Urschel in college a lot.
