Prevailing wisdom is that ND is in very good shape with Freeman and Rees staying put. Kelly thinks he wants a piece of the SEC. We shall see.
It's a bit different than being an independent and having your own network TV contract.
My favorite Urban Meyer quote, and the moment when I knew he'd never make it in the pros is when he said in so many words: "The NFL is insane. It's like playing Alabama every week."
Hell, I think the Panthers should be proactive and just fire Rhule. McCaffrey's gone for the year, Cam's a mess, the 3-0 start to the season is a distant memory. Might as well start the next rebuild now. Let Rhule land where he will. The team wouldn't remain hostage to all the rumors of him going back to the college game. New ownership seems more astute than with some other NFL franchises and looks committed to winning. On an organizational basis, the Panthers job should be more attractive than the Bears, Lions, Jags, Texans, Raiders, Jets, etc.

"Coach Rhule, you've been chopped. Please turn in your smock and leave the building."

I find it interesting that Notre Dame's offensive and defensive coordinators stayed with the school instead of following Kelly to LSU. I know that at least the OC was invited to join Kelly down in Baton Rouge, but he declined. Now the DC, Marcus Freeman, is getting the HC job at Notre Dame. Verrrrrry interesting.
I'm still in shock (relatively speaking, of course) over Lincoln Riley's move to USC. I guess I would rather live in LA over Norman, but I always thought that the HC job at Oklahoma was as good as any other top tier program. Shows you what I know.
