One of my favorite parts of yesterday's marathon Lightning vs Blue Jackets' game was how the stadium crew had a "7th inning stretch" graphic ready for the break in 4OT.

Korpisalo set the modern NHL record with 85 saves; he was under siege for over 6 hours.

It was the 4th longest game in NHL history at 90:27.

After all that time and effort, I hate it for Columbus how that game ended.

I have now watched the ends of the 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 11th, and 12th longest games in NHL history as they happened. I'm not sure how I missed #5.

Once it gets into a 3rd overtime, I start hoping it'll be the one that breaks the record.

I've only had a rooting interest in two of those listed long overtime games (a loss to Philly and a win over Ottawa), so as a neutral observer most of the time it's just fascinating to watch.

I agree, grum. I've never been a fully-invested hockey fan, but for me, golden goal playoff hockey--especially if it happens to be game 6 or 7--is some of the finest viewing the world of sports has to offer. And it might even be better when I don't care which team comes out on top.

Win or lose the length of that game hurts Columbus. Torts usually has the advantage of playing the league's best defensive pair as much as he likes. He did so in this game and I suspect even though Jones and Werenski recover faster than older players it will take it's toll.
