I'm not sure how to get more of the headers to display in gmail. Also, I noticed that tclancy is listed as the admin for the page. Wolverines!
Agh. So, I was sick the entire time I was there (and am still fighting off this resilient spring cold), and didn't feel much like even breathing after 6pm. I'll be back, maybe we can do something next time I'm in town.

I'll be in Lawrence from May 6th to the 12th. If something happens around then (not on the 10th, I'm busy that day), I'd certainly be interested.

Though Andy Pettitte clearly needs to have his hearing checked, because he sure does mis-hear a lot of stuff.

Nobody is coming out of this looking good. Clemens looks like a weasel and like he's got a posse running interference for him, McNamee looks like a liar and a coward, and Congress looks like the grandstanding pack of egomaniacs that it is.

Any chance I can get an RSS feed for the Locker Room? TIA.

Heh. You should have seen the old stylesheet. It was even harder to read, if that's even possible. I really like Jason Scott's writing, but I read his blog much less than I would if he'd switch to black text on white background. On-topic: I'm with hawkguy. I've got close to nothing to contribute here.

Congratulations, rcade. It's always nice to see "our side" win one of these.

Could we show up and get drunk and disorderly and bum-rush whatever suckass so-called sports blog gets the award? "DeadSpin is great, but SpoFi is for the children!"

This totally doesn't deserve its own post, so I leave it here: a Metafilter policy discussion regarding kirkaracha's posting of Sportsfilter in a comment. MetaTalk is the best.

My only worry was using actual member posts as 'bad examples'. Not sure how that would go over. I'd gladly create one for you to link to. Shouldn't be too hard.

This is a great start. Perhaps we need a FAQ, and can link directly to that at the top and bottom of these revised guidelines, and many links back to the guidelines from the FAQ. It doesn't hurt to drive the message home.

It was vacuous and concerned with cool: totally my kind of movie. Not as good as other Mann projects, but a slick update of the TV show and probably better than anything else showing in the theater that night.

I support this two-tiered posting system. Probably doesn't have much of an effect on my life, since I rarely post. 2 Questions: 1. Are we choosing the folks to do this work now, by consensus? Because the algorithm "low user number + lots of posts" isn't necessarily sufficient to find a quality editor. I'm too lazy to look, but I would guess there are plenty of sub-1000 users with a fair number of posts who we wouldn't want doing this job. 2. Will this rule apply to the Locker Room? I vote no.

No shame in picking Atlanta for the NL East - they've defied expectations for so long, it's only appropriate that they continue to defy our expectations by losing. I don't think I'm doing too badly yet - obviously the Atlanta pick is bad, and I doubt the Giants are going to the postseason (that's going to be LA's spot). As for the AL, I think I'm dead on except for the wildcard - that's Detroit's. Obviously my MVP, MOY, and CYA picks are mostly a joke, as are the postseason picks. I wouldn't be surprised to see Red Sox and the Mets in the WS, or the White Sox and the Cardinals.

The temptation to post on MeFi instead was sooo strong: First to ask where the hell SpoFi had gone, and second to curse Trevor Hoffman and the day he was born. Perhaps it's a testament to my self-restraint that I didn't. Anyway, great to see y'all again.

Ditto. For some reason, that guy really, really irks me. Although there's a sort of silver lining: he's posting crap links that attract all the trolls. A well-written post with a quality link will go a long way to keeping out trolls. If we keep the discussion above their heads, maybe we'll have to deal with them less?

You folks on the metric system in Wisconsin? I work for a science company, so yeah, sorta. Besides, I'm guessing you still sit at a computer connected to the internet for at least 42 hours a week, whether it's at work or elsewhere. I'd guess the same is true for others.

Closing the doors for a bit did nothing but improve Mefi's status, as mentioned above. Sorta. It did make MeFi seem like quite the cool place to be, but then the doors opened again. :| we must drown the trolls in our SHEER AWESOMENESS Dude, we're totally outnumbered on this one. And my guess is that a lot of the trolls have just as much time to read/post to SpoFi as I do, which is every second of the 40 hours I am required to sit at this desk. There are millions of us, doing nothing but sitting before a computer connected to the internet for 1/4 of a week, and a huge portion of us are sports fans. The majority of those desk-sitting sports fans are inevitably morons. I will grant that we occasionally find a diamond in the rough (speaking of which: whatever happened to daddisamm? I miss him). But still, it comes down to math and demographics: too many idiots. Honestly, we've had quality posts about PEDs, and what do they turn into? A really long thread about "Bondz sux!!!1! cuz he CHEETD! l0l" with grum sometimes popping in to offer some mostly-unappreciated enlightenment. Or how about the quality football posts that inevitably get turned into a discussion of T.O.? Maybe the answer is two threads, always at the top of the page: one on Bonds, and one on T.O. And one on how Soccer sucks and racing is not a sport, so make it three, really. Also, what yerfatma said

I have become all that I abhor and now wish for a membership close. It's not such a bad idea. Metafilter developed a huge amount of cachet when mathowie closed sign-ups. Although we can debate the quality of the site now that sign-ups are open again. In the meantime, just stop taking on the trolls, and carry on your conversation. qbert72, that's easier said than done. For it to work, you need 100% cooperation, because it only takes one response to give the trolls what they desire. I bet a $5 one-time membership fee would go a long ways to putting an end to this crap. I'd even be willing to pay a retroactive fee, even though I rarely comment.

The solution to the low-quality-comments problem is to only read the locker room. For some odd reason, the unwashed masses haven't found this place. Or maybe they're just baffled by it and don't know what to say. But they're pretty good at saying what's on their collective mind, so I doubt that.

I could tackle the Brewers, and maybe even occupy their #5 starter spot at this point. But yeah, I'm interested. I live an hour and a half from Miller Park, and I've got 3 games scheduled so far this summer. I might go to more if I can afford it.

I want to take this opportunity to point out that the Brewers are on pace to win 162 games this year, which would likely be enough to win the NL Central. That is all.

when I made my big league debut for Arizona Do you know Overbay and Chad Moeller? Lyle won the hearts of all Brewers fans the last two seasons, and I really hope he does well in Toronto (I think he'll benefit some from the smaller park). Chad gets some gripes from the fans because he's light with the bat, but he's great behind the plate. Reading your perspective is very enlightening, and I wish you the best of luck in Mexico. Hopefully Doug Melvin gets a good look at you - Mike Maddux is working wonders with pitchers in Milwaukee, and I'd love to have you throwing for the Brew Crew. almost get killed by a gary sheffield line drive goddamn sheffield.

I have a love/hate relationship with Al's Ramblings, a Brewers blog. Al's a conservative of the Fox/Coulter/Hannity variety, and wastes no opportunity to echo their opinions, but he's got a lot of great insight into our lovable losers in Milwaukee. I don't think there are any higher-profile Brewers bloggers out there, though I'd love to find one with stronger copy editing skills.

You know, crap gets deleted from Metafilter all the time, and I don't think mathowie sends any kind of an explanation to folks when he does. He will answer most questions, though usually more gracefully than Mr. Cuban. Personally, I think you crossed the line with your last sentence in the comment. I wouldn't have deleted it from my blog, but I would've ignored everything you posted from there on out. Still, it's unfortunate he removed your comment.
