MLB Second Half: Earlier this year SpoFites made their 2006 MLB Predictions. Some have been accurate while others not so much. Now, a couple months later, baseball moves into the second half. Scott Miller has already made his second half predictions and now you can as well.

For what it's worth, Scott Miller's article contains at least two mistakes. First, the Reds are 4 games behind the Cardinals at the break, not 2. Second, the Padres are 48-40, not 38-30 at the break. Sloppy writing, fact checking and editing.

YYM: I am surprised that you are sporting these pre-season picks with such devil-may-care rakishness, considering how little confidence you showed in your own team. Heh, heh. Second half: look for the Yankees to break the record for most money paid to players on the DL in a season, Barry Bonds to break the record for most career lies, and "Cinderella" to finally claim outright the title of "Most Abused Children's Story In Sports Metaphors."

Bonus: Roger Clemens pitches for the Astros by July 1st. posted by grum@work at 11:45 AM CDT on April 3 That's pretty amazing grum, are you in fact the rocket himself? Nope, but I knew he'd come back (WBC) and I knew he wouldn't pitch for anyone else. I also knew he couldn't negotiate with the Astros before May 1, so I did a little guesstimating on contract talks and "extended spring training", and came up with July 1st as the latest time he'd come back (if at all). Of course, my "NL East: Braves" choice cancels out any genius I had before.

No matter how ridiculous my predictions were I will not recant (yet).

The only thing that I regret about my predictions is the Hot-lanta for NL East (oops, my bad...) Other than that, I like my picks so far.

No shame in picking Atlanta for the NL East - they've defied expectations for so long, it's only appropriate that they continue to defy our expectations by losing. I don't think I'm doing too badly yet - obviously the Atlanta pick is bad, and I doubt the Giants are going to the postseason (that's going to be LA's spot). As for the AL, I think I'm dead on except for the wildcard - that's Detroit's. Obviously my MVP, MOY, and CYA picks are mostly a joke, as are the postseason picks. I wouldn't be surprised to see Red Sox and the Mets in the WS, or the White Sox and the Cardinals.

My Darkhorse for AL MVP is Justin Morneau! If he continues his hot bat and his good defence, and the Twins stay in contention--he is clearly a possible choice Hold your lughter until I am off line!
