Of course this is sports related, it just completely changed how millions will watch sports. I tried to reload my online account last week and was notified that my credit card was inactive. And I only do small parlays to make things interesting. The amazing part of this was the huge haircut all these gaming stocks took last week. Billions of dollars of lost market cap. Not only the gaming stocks either, but a lot of the "paypal" type of payment systems on the periphery also went into the tank.

This incident proves to me that the wildcard is now coming out of the AL East. Hillenbrand is a douche. But he swings a relatively strong bat and plays a solid infield for pennies on the dollar (making a paltry $6 Million).

Great comparison with the indie rock band. When I read this on the Herald site this morning, all I could think about was my freshman year at Northeastern University (1991), and every dorm room seemed to be blaring Nirvana. Seemingly, each occupant claiming they discovered them and bitching about their growing popularity. I was a white suburbanite who showed up with PE and NWA cd's and all along my comment was that (insert gigantic record company here) did, not you. Articles like this expose Boston as a bitter city, even in success they will find something to complain about. WFRAZERJr, is that Wilfred Brimley? I believe he said: "I didn't go to high school. I think that after you learn to read and write and do your numbers and flush the toilet behind yourself, you don't need no more schoolin'. You need to get out in the water and swim."

JJ, what handicap do you play to now? And also, I have a friend that just got invited to play in the BellSouth Pro-Am here in Atlanta. He's a 15 and is worried that he will embarass himself. I told him you can't pass up an opportunity like that. In your experience, are there a bunch of hacks out there on those Monday rounds?

It's amazing how we (as a society) always joked about steroids in MLB and knew they were a huge part of the game. But now I am seeing that in the face of documented corroboration, the chairs are being pushed away from the table and everyone is taking sides. Bonds is going down, and all of MLB will be taking a hit because it happened as they were counting the receipts. And I mean greenies, red bull, speed, whatever. It's all fair game now. The second I got my mail today, I sat down on my couch and plowed through that story. Then I went on Amazon and pre-ordered the book. (Then I realized if I ordered another book to put me over $25, I would get free shipping. Damn you Amazon!!! You have made way too much money off me with that ploy). This thing reads like a well researched crime novel. My open question is this: it sounds like he was using undocumented cash from memorabilia shows to finance his girlfriend. At the least, I wouldn't be surprised to see him brought down Capone style by the IRS.

The indians have some questions about Mota's shoulder. Let's hope it doesn't keep this deal from happening. And now Theo is back as GM. We need to settle all of this drama before pitchers and catchers report.

I think some people are missing the point. If steroids help you recover faster, then pitchers are as likely as anyone to use them. What pitcher wouldn't want to stave off the effects of a dead arm? And if MLB is going to have a successful no tolerance policy, we don't need to qualify drug abuse with whether or not you have great stats.

He won't add to his rbi total today, since his request for a day off was granted. While I used to love the guy's carefree attitude, if you watched last night's game, it typifies the year this team is having. They give away games they should win. That's fine if you are overmatched, but the Sox are anything but. Watching him lumber down the first baseline was infuriating. Damon gets all the credit for that win. It's just sad that his season is basically an audition for the highest bidder come Fall. Something has gotta give. And my ranting here is more out of frustration than common sense. I truly don't believe they will put him on waivers, but I need somewhere to vent, right? Maybe I'll put him on waivers on my fantasy team. Baby steps, baby steps......
posted by usfbull at 02:15 PM on July 27, 2005
Asshat? The simple fact is he was put there once and nothing was done. And I never mentioned anything about Ortiz. Since I dropped $160 on his jersey more than proves that point.
posted by usfbull at 10:03 AM on July 27, 2005
I'm from Boston, does that have anything to do with anything? My point was, they threw him on waivers already and nobody picked him up. If they trade him, the receiving team will require the Sox to pick up a large chunk of his salary, which will not happen. The "Manny being Manny" cliche is old and tired. I say he either demands a trade (not through rumors published in the Inside Track) or they play hardball with him and deal him to a non-divisional outpost like Kansas City or Milwaukee.
posted by usfbull at 08:10 AM on July 27, 2005
Just watch him tonight. Manny running half speed in an extra inning game to first and he was still safe. I say they throw him on waivers....again.....so that it shows nobody wants him.

The Boston Globe went a little more in depth. It's a 9 hole public course that hosts 40,000 rounds a year. So if you're playing 18 holes, you get 2 chances to hit this woman's house which sits at the midway point of a 290 yard par 4. For you non-golfers, 290 yards = amateur golfers going for the green. I think she has a case.

Even Dan Patrick sucks ass on the radio. Funny you say that. I listen to his radio show at my desk, and he often times comes off as so full of himself, yet just a few hours later on the air he is as personable as anyone. I think part of it can be attributed to the medium. The only athlete I ever liked to watch being led by reporters questions is Carl Everett. You never knew what he was going to say.

Didn't he pick the Pats over the Steelers? Yesterday during NFL Game Day, Steve Young was the only one to pick the Pats while Irvin and Jackson went with the Steelers. I just get the feeling that after every Patriots victory, he pokes holes in how the loser lost the game and that the Pats schemes had nothing to do with it. But then again, I just dislike Jackson. So I guess I'm just as guilty for being biased too.

With that being said, can't say I feel bad for this guy's demise at all.

The Marlins say South Florida's wet and hot summers hurt attendance and that they need a roofed stadium if they are going to be competitive and financially viable. Isn't this the same argument used for why they shouldn't have a team in the first place? So their alternative is to follow Tampa Bay's model inside a sterile dome? If you can't spin profits from winning two World Series Titles within your first 12 years of existence, then maybe you shouldn't have a team at all.
