Ex-Raider Barret Robbins shot, in critical condition.: Robbins' long decline hit a new low Saturday night when he was shot several times after a "violent struggle" with a police officer in Miami Beach.
I did. Hard to underestimate the shock value and how much it disrupted everybody's mental game. No pun intended. A sorry story, as with the other ex-Raider in the news for similar trouble, Cole Ford.

So it's steroids. Right.

Steroids? Robbins has a history of mental problems, which is probably what caused him to flip out before the Super Bowl. Of course, you have to draw the line on the "he's sick" excuse somewhere, and that's probably well before he (allegedly) broke into a building and got into a death struggle with a cop.

Sarcasm never works in black and white. This I must try to remember.

Either that, or I'm just dense...

It made me laugh, Weedy, but I've been staying away from this thread after that last one flamed-out so badly. Carry on.

It just gets worse for him, doesn't it. I mean, he's certainly not doing himself any favors, but still. (Robbins, I mean.)

The story says he was arrested last month in a San Francisco club for hitting a security guard. Is he just travelling the country committing crimes?

That would make for a good comic book. While I sympathize with anyone facing a 300+ pound musclular schizophrenic (would be another good comic, but Badger did it first and best, except for the weight), this is starting to stink of standard Florida policework. How did he get shot twice by a detective who was found unconscious? I'm pretty much talking out of my ass, but something about the police spokesmen's statement didn't sound right.

"The only reason this is news is because this guy used to play in the NFL. It's a tragic story, but how much more tragic is it than the poor guy who also has bipolar disorder and is living under a bridge and having the same types of problems?" From the ESPN article. And what yerfatma said.

Anyone else think that when Robbins flaked out before the Super Bowl, he took Oakland's game face with him? I never expected a team of crafty codgers like Rich Gannon to lay an egg like they did.
