Replace Bettman in the joke with Goodenow or Roenick and it is just as apropos.

not really, pivo. its a joke on the negotiating tactics of bettman&co, which have been one-fold : re-package the same thing. the players have been creative in the concessions they've given. They have attempted honest negotiations. Name one tangible concession the League has offered. Good faith....fiddlesticks!

This made me laugh for about two seconds. Then it just got depressing. I'm actually giving a pretty big shit about the junior 'Canes at the Quebec International Pee Wee Tournament right now. Sheesh.

I'm hoping the Providence Bruins make the playoffs. They're two points out right now. I should neither know nor care about this information. Fucking NHL bullshit.

If they keep it up until this time next year Bettman walks into a Ford Pinto dealership...

Today's Minneapolis Star Tribune: Instant Poll: Do you miss the NHL? I did for a little while, but not any longer. 532 = 15% Yes. I wish they'd get back on the ice 1123 = 32% No. 1908 = 54% (certainly not scientific I know...) That was along with an article stating that the effect of the lockout on the St. Paul economy was "barely felt."

Even scarier, here's the results for a similar poll in Canada. When Canadians don't care anymore, you know the NHL is in the shitter. Also note the NHL's position on the sidebar at ESPN's website. Just barely ahead of Olympic Sports now.

it does fluctuate depending on what sport is in season so it is fair to say that it would drop further down when they are not in season when they should be. though an nba or nfl labour dispute would probably not affect their sidebar hierarchy so much because hockey... hockey sucks and the owners and players and poo poo heads.

You know what's really strange about all this? The lockout hasn't hurt my hockey jersey business one whit. There has been a slight refocusing by some collectors to junior and minor-league jerseys, but other than that, the interest has remained high. I'm still selling what few hockey card packs there are out there, and buyers are looking for older singles to fill their collections. It seems to me that since knowledgeable fans knew this was a distinct possibility, they have girded their loins and are ready to wait it out. Even if it takes two years, the NHL will return ... and the owners will win and win big.

Fraze, do you have a sales website? I'd be interested in a David Krejci or Masi Marjakami jersey. I assume there will be a sizable Sportsfiter discount, of course.
