Baseball Struggles to Reach a Deal to Return: If we can't enjoy the great game, we can at least enjoy another tradition -- strife between players and owners. Major League Baseball's plan to pay players a lot less for a shorter season isn't going over well. It proposes a scale that would cut salary 80% from the highest-paid players and 17.5% from the lowest. Players believe the owners promised in March to pay salaries in full prorated by games played. "Interesting strategy of making the best most marketable players potentially look like the bad guys," responded Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brett Anderson.

NBA May Play Rest of Season at Disney World: The NBA is strongly considering a plan to bring all teams to Disney World's Wide World of Sports complex to finish out the season. The site can hold up to 13 games at a time and the area also has the Orlando Magic's Amway Center home and UCF's Addition Finance Arena. Playing the NBA in empty arenas might curb the tradition of trash talking. "Players are allowed to talk trash with near-impunity in real games because television cameras can't catch most of what they say," reports CBS Sports.

The same people who put Trump in office run the NFL. No wonder it's not diverse : "Only once in nearly two decades has a club been penalized for non-compliance: [with the Rooney Rule] when the Detroit Lions couldn’t keep it in their pants long enough to at least do the dance before hiring Steve Mariucci, earning them a $200,000 fine in 2003."

CFL Commissioner Says Season Likely to Be Cancelled: Canadian Football League commissioner Randy Ambrosie told a government committee Thursday that the league's 2020 season is "very much in jeopardy" and cancellation is likely. He requested up to $150 million in government assistance for the CFL, which makes most of its revenue from ticket sales. The league's teams lost $20 million last year.

When Will Sports Return? Not Anytime Soon: Seven weeks after the pandemic brought the sports world to a historic halt, the Washington Post has checked in with the major U.S. sports leagues and found none close to a return. Among other sports, three have spectator-free returns planned: UFC on May 9, NASCAR May 17 and PGA Tour in June. Epidemiologist Jeffrey Shaman offers this spoilsport take on fanless proposals: "The problem, of course, is let’s say a hotel worker has it and has no idea. Will that potentially get one of the players sick? And then he gives it to the rest of the team?"
