So, Keane scores 6 of Tottenham's last 9 league goals (or 5 of their last 5) and he starts on the bench? I mean you can't say that Spurs didn't need a shakeup sitting third from bottom, but to bench the only guy scoring goals? Is Ramos getting tips from Benitez?

If you have (or have ever had) a chuckle at that youtube video of the nunchuk guy I strongly URGE you to read an article called the Prisoners of Youtube about him (and others like him) who have suffered from clips like that coming to define how people they don't know judge them as a people. Turns out he's a rather successful stunt man, but now his career has taken a bit of a slide due to this one clip. The article gives the background about the clip and the fallout he's experienced. You gotta feel for the guy. (It is a long and interesting article so for those cut to the chase types, the part about him is on page 2 of the article).

C'mon, Domi was a fan favourite every place he played. He just didn't play for the Flyers (so your assessment is not unusual and is to be expected). He is a bit of a lovable lunk. But that time when the fan fell into the penalty box was hilarious. In a 'that should never happen' sort of way.

0:54 - Toronto Maple Leaf Stanley Cup champions (1967 [last one] or 1942 [win despite 0-3 deficit in finals]) Wouldn't be 1967. The 1967 jerseys had numbers on the sleeves. In 1948, the Cup became a two-piece trophy with a removable bowl and became a one piece trophy in 1958. So that leaves Leafs Cups in 1950-51, 1948-49, and 1947-48 1951 was the Barilko year, but they were wearing white when they won. Leafs clinched at home in 1949 and in Detroit in 1948. If the Leafs were in white at home in 1951, and we assume that the colour scheme was consistent for their two earlier Cups, the clip would suggest a victory on the road, so 47-48. The first two piece Cup. Ta da.

I know I'd seen that Albright thing someplace else (on a different site, linked from digg) that made is clear (at least from the subhead of the site) that the content was a satire. And in the Digg thread there was a link to something on ESPN page 2 where they asked Albright about his rating and he said he didn't care. but I guess the satirical element can be a bit non-obvious if the material is taken in isloation. but, amusing. ummm, i mean, great recent Ronaldo goal bicycle kick, disallowed though. man, that kid is as good as Crouchie! Ryan Shannon spin move penalty shot works in the AHL! In the NHL, not so much. Dude, get the puck UP.

speaking of footie on TV - any hints on where this recap clip is from? the disappointing thing is that the whole kerfuffle could have been avoided if Rooney, when realizing he was faced with pressure from two players, had merely (a la the Portugal players) hurled himself to ground, rolled around, and grabbed his face or an extremity. On that play I don't have much problem with arguing with the ref really (who shouldn't allow himself to have the players make the call anyway) but the wink from Ronaldo to his bench was smug and cheeky and slimy. Yeah, you can bend the rules but at least be nice about it.

colour-coding = red is the best score on the week, orange is the second best score, yellow is the third best score, blue is the worst score. I'm sure somebody else can give a better explanation but as rcade has noted, there is a real melange of competition. DOMESTIC: The EPL teams play a domestic league, a 38 game season, home and home against the other 19 teams in the league. The bottom three teams each year will be dropped down one division, now called the Championship (ex-Division One until a couple of years ago, ex-Division Two before the Premiership existed and the top flight was called Division One. So, now, Division One is the third from the top flight, to confuse matters). To replace those three teams you'll take the top two finishers in the Championship and a third which is the winner of a playoff between the 3rd through 6th place finishers. (a similar promotion and relegation scheme happens between the lower strata). Titles are based upon regular season standings. Chelsea won the top domestic honour this year by finishing at the top of the Premiership table. DOMESTIC CUPS: These are cup competitions where they throw all the teams in the mix for the FA Cup (which includes all teams in the English FA) and the League Cup (which is currently called the Carling Cup and includes only the teams in the Premiership and the four next highest divisions). So, as far as I can gather (and not being somebody who knew much about English football until a few years ago) the Premiership title is the big domestic prize (for the top clubs at least), the FA Cup is the second greatest prize (for the top clubs that is, for all the other teams that have no chance to win the Premiership then this would be a crowning achievement for a season) and the League Cup is not something that the top teams get too excited about (often fielding second rate teams). There are two INTERNATIONAL CUPS: Champsions League and the UEFA Cup. The top four teams in the premiership gain a spot in the Champions League tournament (with, the top two starting further along in the tournament than the third and fourth place finishers who have some Champions League qualifications to overcome). The best teams in Europe compete in this competition. UEFA Cup is a second tier competition. The 5th and 6th place finishers from the EPL are in, as are similarly runner up types from other european leagues. or something. There are several other wrinkles about European Cup eligibility depending on who gets into the CL competition. I think.

I think he means the spelling is Quebecois, no offence intended? or maybe i don't get it given that the name would have an accent (ie René Lévesque) in Quebec. google suggests other famous Renés from Belgium (Magritte) and France (Descartes) and they both use an accent. So final score for other one ending E Renes that I have heard of is Quebec 1, Belgium 1, France 1. So, I dunno. (and, on post, too slow)

I think it is more useful to scrap the tradtional PP efficient and move to the time per goal. i mean not all powerplays are created equal when a team on the powerplay takes a penalty and evens it up and ends their powerplay. Especially relevant are cases where the faceoff to begin the powerplay results in a penalty to the team with the advantage. those 3 seconds give you an 0 for 1 on the powerplay. i'd be curious to see the efficient work on a PROD basis.
