Yawn... it was an exciting couple of minutes at the end, but one of the least memorable finals I can remember as far as hype/ pre-game buzz goes. I just really didn't care when it came right down to it.

I must say rcade, with all due respect, the thread seems a little unnecessary without any sort of political comments or "comments about the president;" Seeing as how the boos were made with vigor prior to the throw, it seems unlikely that they were made in relation to the "mechanics" of the throw itself. I suppose it is possible that he was booed because he's an acknowledged ranger fan/ former ranger owner, but... Maybe the real topic has something to do with the fact that baseball season ticket buyers are increasingly older every season*, and thus increasingly likely conservative**, yet they are still booing the republican president... In the nations capital. If that is too political the thread seems maybe too politically charged. *I searched for a cite for this for all of about 27 seconds before I lost interest. **I didn't even try... I'll happily recant if provided with evidence.

Lots of lifetime/long-term ban talk already; I think that is premature. This was not a Kermit Washington type obvious anger fueled deal. There needs to be some sort of official proceedings with the specific intent of determining Taylor's intent, whether by the FA, or by the british judicial system. It does not seem unlikely to me that this is possibly as HATER mentioned above a case of "mis-timing." I am a runner, and not a team sports guy, but I have watched enough team sports at the pro and amateur level to know that when two people are moving and fighting as fast and hard as they can, sometimes shit happens. Regardless, that is awful.

I always thought it was cool that the MLB always stuck with wood bats, because it gives some austerity to the game. I feel the same way about a leather b-ball. I still insist on having a leather ball around the house, because it feels so right. If it aint broke don't fix it. Bad move Mr. Stern

I think that its amazing that no matter how many times the unthinkable happens or people are proved dead wrong by making absolute assertions based on the odds, or the likelihood, of a certain outcomes, people still insist on on saying "there will never be...," or "there is no way that...," etc... I think this is possibly one of the best basketball teams ever assembled. For the first time since 1992 almost all of the best American NBA players are in, and its exciting! As was alluded to before, the biggie difference is that the Dream Team was made up of peak, or immediately post peak players, where as we are yet to see Lebron's, Gilbert's, Carmelo's Wade's, or really any of these guys career peaks. Don't condemn these guys before they have had a chance to prove themselves just because they are the young guns, and not your fogey contemporaries...

ok... so... As far as me being a casual MMA fan, I don't know what rubric you are using to evaluate so I wont presume that I know more about MMA than you or anyone else, but I feel like I am more than just a "casual fan." Thanks for caring. As far as John McCain's legislation towards MMA goes, maybe if you were more than a "casual fan" of federal legislation, you might realize that fairly serious injuries are not unheard of in MMA, and it would take more than three or four legislators to "shut it down." That is simply a ridiculous thought. Now if you had suggested that at some point MMA might find itself under federal regulation because of accidents, then you might have some arguing room, but to "shut it down" would be next to impossible. You simply can't tell consenting adults not to fight or box in a controlled environment, and if you could find even one sustained example of it in US legislative history I would be dumbfounded.

as far as the stoppage in the ortiz/shamrock fight, there are so many people that view mma as human cockfighting that the first time a fighter is seriously injured in the ring, the UFC will be shut down. Shut down by whom??? That was not a well thought out statement. Babalu is nice, but I'm not sure he is Chuck Liddel nice. Chuck is a great great fighter, and a challenger is going to have to be ready... no one thought the he could beat Randy, and that was precisely what he did. As far as Silva... I'm not so sure about that either. I'd Like to see a rematch with Rampage, but Dana is so slow with organizing shit like that, that I can't imagine we'll ever see it.

I can't understand why the article gives Thomas and Lefevre more hype than Chestnut, when he has been the most noteworthy person in all of professionaal eating in the last year. Chico, I think you might be cutting the man short. He ate 32 last year, and since then has set three world records. I give him a minimum of 45. Sonya Thomas has not really gained any ground on Kobayashi in the last three years, and all of a sudden you see her almost pulling an upset? Not today, the physics just aren't right. As far as the Lefevres... they're fun, but not July 4th winners; I'd be extremely surprised if Rich walked away with the trophy... This year Tsunami and Chestnut down to the wire, with Chestnut ending Kobayashi's dominance... Just a guess On preview... Ouch

T.C. that was a heck of a point there...D-Wade isn't at that point yet in his career. (heck, I don't even think LeBron is either)...the only player I've seen capable of putting 4 straight 40 point efforts out there would be MJ...though Magic and Bird in the 80's did that a bit themselves. Doubt only motivates true Champions, and makes asses out of less-than-educated-guess makers.

I wish people would stop blaming the biker for riding a bike! Whoa, whoa, whoa, Miss Lippy. The part of the story I don't like is the guy is a pro football player. The guy has gotta think, "You got a contract; you got a responsibility." Seriously...
