Death Race 2007: Unnecessary is the entire point of the Tough Guy competition, a semi-annual 8-mile race through mud, manure, water, fire, more mud, barbed wire, nets, electrical charges, still more mud, smoke grenades, sewer pipes, ice, even more mud, ropes, cables, tires, on a horse farm in England's West Midlands. Make sure to check out the vid at the top of the page.

People into this should just join the Corps. Then you can get paid and take pride.

This sounds like fun. Anyone aware of anything similar (besides the Camp Pendleton Mud Run) in the States? SG: It can't be exactly like the Corps. Unless they have changed some standards and let you do the stuff in your underwear... carrying an inflatable alligator.

Y'know, after seeing that, I gotta say: Rasputin? Total wuss.

I am actually tempted to participate. Sounds like a tough run, but like the ESPN writer said, if so many can do it, it's certainly not impossible.

Not sure what's up with the guys in thongs though. They'll be members of the Thong Rangers [YouTube]. They raise money in Oxfordshire and beyond for worthy causes (including the charity I'm doing my Olympic thing for). They are odd, but they raise a lot of money and they have a lot of fun, and they make (most) people laugh.

Blimey. I'm from the West Midlands and I'd never even heard of this event. It sounds amazing. Not amazing in the sense that I'd be mad enough to want to take it on though.

Crazy, neverheard of such a thing. Did it say in the video how long it takes, didn't have the sound on?

The winning time was 1:12:35 by Vito Graffagnino. Jim Caple finished in 3:43:03

For any USAians who don't want to fly over the pond to participate in this one, you might want to join me next year for the annual skijoring competition in Leadville, CO.
