Five Duquesne basketball players wounded in shooting.

billysaythis, Sounds like you are just an anti-gun. Guns don't kill people do. Get real! The culture of violence in my opinion is the problem. You may not like guns, but if you ever needed one you'd quickly change you mind. NRA is not a criminal. America as being sovereign can do what the people desire without the UN. For your sake billsaysthis I pray you never need a firearm. I suggest joining some political organization so you can work with you ideals. Take care.

On the same note- can one believe all four of the major heavyweight champs are currently white. Now tell me that doesn't make things even more strange. I think Valuev will be good for boxing as a side show and a champ. Americans will be back in the heavyweights. Brock may do it, although he isn't a real power puncher.

"Fields of Green: High School Pay."

[A]nd as long as people demand more from their high school coaches than they do of their teachers, expect the higher pay grade to go to the former. posted by PublicUrinal Demand more from a coach- that's a joke right? Like is the coach going to make sure the school meets No Child Left Behind mandates or that students keep proper demeanor in the classroom. Sports are called extra-curricular and so is the coach. If high school football is so great and prodcutive it should fund itself privately-not by sucking up tax payer money. If high school football is so businesslike let it surivive in a purly economic market. Then pay the coach what the market is willing to spend, not some school board member.

"Fields of Green: High School Pay."

Football is for a few kids. People trying to justify that sort of payday is sad. My opinion: Pay a teacher properly and privatize costly sports like football. I think the point Kaufman makes towards the end of his article is a good one -- from a pure economic perspective, paying coaches more than teachers make sense, but perhaps we as a society should question why public school teachers are valued so little (as reflected in their pay). posted by holden If is so purely economic then then it should fund itself privately. I saw the commercial for FNL series and laughed (especially the pep rally). Is that show geared for teens?

Vikings' Robinson Arrested; Season May Be In Jeopardy

Dyams, you hit home for talking about the stress of making a day-to-day salary for regular folks. Gosh that truly is a struggle. As for my own thoughts, I don't care if Robinson is an Alcoholic. Or if Alcoholism is disease. F-him and his behavior. What does society need to wait for this loser to kill somebody? Get the poor baby a tissue. Speeding to evade police at over 100mph is disgusting. Who gives a shit about his disease (if he even has one). Seems like when any "star" gets busted for intoxication they "have a disease" or "just need treatment" or "they had it rough." Hey, they can keep the bull and they can keep the shit because that's all it is.

Evander Holyfield

Good opportunity for Bates; however, I would like to see Holyfield kick his ass. I know, people say Holyfield should quit. I think he probably should also especially with the suspected brain damage he's suffered much like Bowe. At the same time a fighter is a fighter. Some will say its bad for boxing when a guy keeps going like this and an acccident will happen. Same regards now with Baby Joe, Bowe, and Holyfield. But hey, a contract is a contract, and if a guy is approved to fight and wants to fight let him fight. Go Holyfield, but if you take a beating, please for your fans, no more abuse. Thanks for the post kidrayter2005. It seems as though boxing get passed up on the filter too often. A post like this is great for me anytime, THANKS. overandout

I wonder if he wishes he was a fry cook at Wendy's and just a regular citizen. Hey, wait a minute, maybe he can still be a winner. He could be the number one draft on the prison football team. Maybe he can be the number one draft pick for the "get poked by really bad dudes." He could go in the second round in the shower. He could recover the soap fumble and get buried in the pile up. Maybe he could even go for two, two helpings of prison chow. Lock down Clarett, make sure to sleep on your back!

I think he was targeted because he was supposed to leave and acting like an imp. I agree with The Black Hand, when cops say stop-it - do it stupid! Also ctal1999 has a good point: if the hotel was being discriminatory, sue them. Or in alternative, act dumb with cops and get shocked like a fool. Gosh, I wish there were a video of the incident.

For Some Athletes, Courses With No Classes

I think if students can't hang in real classes, WalMart would have hired them yesterday. bdaddy's comments are great insite. Maybe schools should have no athletic sport interaction after six pm or something to take the stress of the students. I was disappointed about the someone in the Sociology Deptartment dumbing it up for the students especially since I have a Soc degree and now at law school. If an athlete who wanted to go to post-undergradute but were not challenged in undergraduate, I think they could be robbed of future dreams like being a lawyer, doctor, college professor or some other career requiring a doctorite. (not like that's everybody's dream) I wonder if maybe athletes should do athletics with one or two classes a for a year and the next year without athletics (while retaining scholarship) to see if they can take regular classes without the stress of athletics. Then alternate back and forth on this schedule. If they flunk out then, there're gone. If they do well they get educated properly.

Ex-girlfriend accuses Tigers' Young of choking her

Wingnut4life, I appreciate the post. I believe these type of posts remind us that players from all sports should not just be thought of by how they handle themselves on the field. And if people don't need a reminder lets talk about why not. When players embarass themselves, the game and the fans we should talk about it. I think they should put mini rap sheets/major controversies on the backs of trading cards. Then when people are like man he great player... like yeah when he wasn't beatin hir girl or cheating on her, or maybe eating roids, or punching people, or getting busted with drugs . . .
