And the statistics for the players who didn't play one or more of those games? What stiatistics do they show? And the athelete who used performance enhancing drugs, does the league vacate those games? Imagine what would happen to league standings, playoff potential etc. I hold with my original post. Don't punish the in inocent ones.

So say a college professor is found guilty of sexually abusing children. Does the school vacate the passing grades of the students who studied under him? The atheltes who were on the team during the "vacated" wins are being punished for a crime they had no knowledge of nor part of. The NCAA is wrong in my view to have sanctioned the decision. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Suspended for two games. So he can, in the meantime, still recruit and coach. He just can't be on the sidelines for those two games. Outrageous. And using Woody Hayes as a paragon of good sportsmanship and morals. Stupity. That about sums it up.

And as an aside to rcade, does your family have a pet pig? As far as second chances go and paying debt. Do you know of any bank robbers who are bank guards, sex abusers adopting children, and on and on. I jus say no to M.V.

Many years ago when I coached Pop Warner we played a team (in N.J) that played on a "short field" 90 yards long. They set it up so if you made it to the 20 or closer without scoring they moved the ball back 10 yards. It worked okay I guess, but that team was so bad that we seldom made it to the 20 without scoring. As a matter of fact we often gave them a score with the kickoff to them at the second half. Honestly, our kids were pretty good actors falling down and being "blocked" by them. And, we never ran the score up on them. The "white team", second string ,played almost three quarters of the game.

I was really torn watching this game. I'm a Gator fan big time, but learned to like them when the "old ball coach" was still in Gainesville. I wanted Spurrier to succeed, on the other hand see ther Gators win the SEC East. A paradox to be sure, but I suppose was satisfied in a weird way. Now it's Go Cocks and good luck Gators in whatever Bowl Game they play in. And yeah, I live in Southeast Florida. Aind'm I the lucky guy to have so many big time college schools to root for in (almost) my back yard. For you Tebow haters out there, yes, I'm still a Tebow fan. In my view one of the all time greats in the college game.

I have to wonder about the games he's played in being in question. Nothing has been said about possible forfeiture of them ala FSU's athletic programs. The question being, of course, if the allegations are founded. Anyone know of that possible consequence?

rcade...Are you implying that the tour is made up of "duffers" just waiting for Tiger to return to make it entertaning? Seems to me there have been some interesting competition going on among the "duffers" in his absence. But then going back aways there was Arnie's Army, the Golden Bear, and the Shark just to name a few who kinda made it entertaining and interesting. Just to name a few. Wonder too if Lefty, among several others, realize he's a duffer. The brief resurgence of Tom Watson spiced things up for a few days too.
As I view it, Arnie put the game on t.v. and made it entertaining, interesting and very profitable for the players. Yeah, the good old days when we knew nothing of the off course activities and privates lives of the great ones and didn't care. Although, admittedly, the media didn't try or to pry to get into the private lives of athletes for the most part in those days. Oh my, I could go on, but I'd better stop here!

I agree that not all Olypians gain fame and fortune from their sucess in the games. What I don't get is if he's not doing it for money then what is he doing it for? He has several degrees including a Masters which should account for gainful enployment and or a career at some level. His bio indicates that he taught and coached track and field at Santa Monica College for 27 years. Perhaps bperk is right. It should be donated to his alma mater or a museum. But how can we read the minds of those who do things we don't understand? Obviously he can with it what he wishes. No doubt he earned it.

Why hasn't Lousiville simply fired him? I would think there would be some sort of "character" clause in his contract. This speaks volumes to me regards just how much so many schools will bastardize themselves in order to try to achieve successon on the court or on the field. What a wonderful role model he presents for his team and school. I don't know if he's a father or not, but what will his kids think about the stigma that's now attatched to him? It's a sorry situatiuon...

Been a Yankee fan since I can remember, about 1945. Most of us always expected the Yankee to win , not just in the early part of the season, but most of all win the AL pennant. That was way back in the days of just the AL and NL pennant winners playing for the World Series without all the "playoff hoopla."
No one cried early on, we just knew that at the conclusion they would be there. Then we went through the lean years and one was almost embarassed to be a Yankeee fan. But we struggled but stayed loyal. Seems to me as if the Boston fans, having have had some recent success, expect them to be perennial wonders. If they fail miserably this year, and they may, T.S. get over it. I remember those years the Yanks were has beens, but I was and always be a Yankee fan, no matter where they are in the standings. It may be time for the Bean Towner Nation to sit down and shut up....and "wait til next year"...

'How can Arizona pass a law like this?' asked Mexican Rep Leticia Amparano-Gamez, who represents Nogales... I think it adds some meaning to the discourse seen here...

I believe that the word homophobia is a misnomer. Phobia = fear. I don't fear gays and DO respect and accept them. What I don't condone, however, is some of them using the issue to make political hay. Don't flaunt and taunt it to me. While this doesn't follow the thread about gay athletes I feel most straight men have the same attitude. I have gay relatives both male and female. To them it isn't a political issue, just their way of life, and they don't try to foist or force me to respect and accept them, I just do.

I realise this will probably sound appallingly sexist
One of the fircest fights I've ever seen was between two girls on the playground when I was in 8th grade. That was back in the dinosaur days of 1952. Not even the boys wanted to try to braek it up. Finally two teachers came out and after a genuine struggle got them separated. Brown would have been horrified, but it impressed all the kids who gathered to witness it. No mat, no gloves, no referee, just two girls pulling hair biting and punching s&*t out of each other and no "quit" in either of them. Later in life I played judo to the extent of achieveing a brown belt. Trust me, judo is a tough and demanding sport and you can be injured but I wouldn't have wanted a part of either of those girls that day. Yep, girls can be as tough as guys and I applaud them for their grit, atleticism and determination. It is indeed 2012.
