Miguel Cabrera swigs from a bottle of scotch in front of a cop; gets arrested for DUI: After the sordid end to his 2009 season in which he drank himself into a jail cell the night before a critical season-ending series, Miguel Cabrera went on the wagon. He dedicated himself to sobriety during the winter of 2009-10, showed up to camp sharp and trim last year and went on to post an MVP-worthy season.
Shoddy reporting. They don't say what kind of Scotch.
It says Johnnie Walker a short ways down the story.
Seriously, though, the dude has got problems!

This makes me kinda sad for him. It seemed like he had this problem licked last season and was good again. Poor guy. I hope he's able to beat back those demons.

I think that's just the blog post taking poetic license. I want facts!

I can't feel sorry for him. Fact is he's rich as hell, and even if he wants to be HOF, Mantle-level alcoholic, he has the cash to pay for a cab and not drive drunk. Hell, he could buy a limo and a driver, 24/7/365 and never even have to drive.

If he can't straighten up in a month and a half then the whole season is pretty much down the tubes.

The original intent of spring training was to 'dry out' the ball players before the season started. Sounds like Cabrera did not understand this.
By the way, Johnny Walker Red or Black?

Howard, with his money, I hope it was Blue or Green. Fer chrissake, man, swig the good stuff!

The article ended by saying the incident would or should get him out of spring training and into rehab. It didn't say about getting him out jail. which is where you or I wojuld be in these circumstances. Did he end up in jail?

Sure, sure, but this is car driving scotch. You don't want the top shelf stuff in the car:
A., there's no shelf
B., What if you crash

This is a perfect alibi.
He was stressed out from the breakdown of the vehicle and, resigned to his non-driving situation, took a drink.
Acquittal.

Invest in a nice silver hip flask. It's unbreakable and it adds a touch of class to any occasion.
