Opening Night in Baseball

Does everyone know what today is? Today is the day that the Cubs are in first place!!

Kinds sad knowing the Astros will not be playing in the central any longer. Looking forward to watching this new rival tonight.

Hi everyone. long time no see!! Well I was interested in playing some fantasy baseball and also getting in on a March Madness pool. Is there anything set up that I may not be to late to get in on?

I just don't understand some people! Does beating the opposing fan make your team any better or benefit your team in any way? Only makes you look like an ass and gives bad publicity to your team!!

Yahoo Fantasy H2H Baseball League

It actually says in the notes above the teams.....

"Your league will not be permitted to conduct its draft if it contains an odd number of teams"

We only have 11 teams signed up so we need 1 more or 3 more if you want 14.

No it says that unless you have an even amount of teams you will not be allowed to draft. We would need at least 12 to go.

The mighty hath fallen:

This is the first time I have really watched any tennis and I am really enjoying it. I watched the Tsonga match yesterday and was impressed. Now mind you impressing me probably isn't very hard because I have never really watched. I watched Federer a little the other day and thought so this is what a great tennis player looks like. So many of you have been singing his praises on spofi over the last year. I am bummed that I will not be able to see him in the finals but will enjoy watching Tsonga again. I have not see Djokovic but I am hoping it is a good match. Wow I just watched Sharapova win it all. I think I may have a new sport I am fast becoming hooked on.

"If you're not confrontational, you're not doing your job."

I agree with apoch. I did not know about his involvement with Ben Johnson at least I am not remembering hearing about it before. It almost sounds like while he was in charge he had a personal stake in it. He led a good witch hunt but I really don't think much justice was served. What is known about John Fahey, the man who is going to take his place? Will the witch hunt continue with guilty being said and the accused must bring evidence to prove innocence or will Fahey have to show evidence to prove guilt while they are considered innocent?

Lucky players ride loonie roller-coaster

Interesting post. I have always wondered slightly about how teams were paid. I say slightly because I never bothered to look it up to find out the answer myself. So another thing I wonder about now is "how do minor league players get paid when they are brought up to the NHL?" Are they still paid their minor league contract amount in Canadian currency or do they get a new amount (on a per game scale) in US funds from the NHL team?

"I expected it to be kind of a factory setting...and what I found was a very loving, somewhat casual environment...they weren't factories, they were more like gardens."

Thanks for the fpp. I helps me believe that any child has the potential to be great. There has to be a love to start with and that can sometimes be influenced by what is watched by the parents. Parents are a big part of this if they are willing to pay with money and time for practice. Our son works very hard at hockey and really loves it. He wants to play in NHL and this gives me hope. He did get some athletic genes from skydivedad but all I contributed is the love of watching sports as I am not very coordinated at them. I can most definately give him any support he needs. I also think that sometimes it seems kids have an easier time learning because they have not learned fear or mistrust. If you tell them they can do it they believe it. Where as an adult has learned to mistrust people and the fear of the risk they are taking.

Baseball GMs Vote in Favor of Instant Replay.

I have to admit that I think baseball games have become too long. Saying that, I am really for instant replay for the purspose of homeruns. I think it would be an advantage to all teams. I did not realize that baseball had a 12 second rule. I really don't want to offend anyone by naming the ones I know but some pitchers take an extremely long period of time to get the ball to the plate. I think we can all think of some. It drives me crazy to see how many times time is called. A pitcher takes 30 seconds to get the sign and another 20 seconds to set his stance and then low and behold the batter calls for time and it all starts again. This is all well and good until you are an eastern time zoner with a west coast game and you do not get to bed to well after 1pm. Even 8:30 games go past midnight quite often. I don't think the instant replay of homeruns will add much more and the game could actually be quicker if they enforce the 12 second rule.

Final '07 Fantasy Baseball Standings

Hey now just because I didn't make any last minute changes to my team doesn't mean I wasn't active. Look at the difference - minny trax made like 70 moves and I only made about 18. Just a different style of play not necessarily not playing. This is all mute anyway because in no way was it stated that you had to complete the season with complete moves on the last day to win the costanza so in my mind LBB is the true costanza winner. Jersey Girl made about the same amount of moves I did and you still say she won.

I'm definitely not sold on Mason yet...now that he's the main man and all. Mason is Fantasy Radiation (loser) due to the mass exodus of talent out of Nashville Of course - I drafted him. He now has the skydivemom curse of fantasy sports and will forever suck! But no weedy I am not giving him up because if anyone knows me I draft and keep till it kills me. Again I say it is the skydivemom curse of fantasy sports!

Stealing good ideas- (Video)

Well I think that a company like NBC could come up with an orginal idea for promoting this instead of digging in the closet for something they have already done. I also don't think the NFL one is as entertaining as the NHL one. If I was to duplicate my ideas I would do it better or at least at the same quality.

MLB Predictions: somewhat-post-midterm grades

Our class trip in sixth grade was to Mackinac Island, up where Lake Michigan and Lake Huron meet. It was neither educational nor particularly fun. But I did get some salt water taffy. Even though it's not remotely close to an body of salt water. I probably listened to some awful music in the walkman on the bus ride there and back. So awful I can't even remember it. posted by holden at 11:14 AM CDT on July 26 Ditto here holden and it was Greenfield Villiage in 5th grade. I cannot forget the all famous trip to Tulip Festival in Holland and all the rich kids (not me of course) getting wooden shoes!
