NHL Stanley Cup Finals Pick 'Em: You know what to do.

You know what to do. Well, it's quite obvious from the standings that I don't know what to do. Anaheim in 6 Scott Neidermeyer 5.2 Wouldn't it be simpler to pick the total goals scored in the finals? If we go that way, I'll take 31. Or are we counting overtime minutes towards a GAA-like value? So 5 goals scored in a triple-overtime game would be the equivalent of 2.5goals/game, instead of 5goals/game? Am I being to technical?

Holy shit I can't believe I'm actually going to write this. I really can't. It hurts to think it. But I know I think it's the right call: Ottawa in 6. ... Just give me a sec. (sob) I have to.. (sob)... Recover.... Conn Smythe.... Shit... Here we (sob) go again: Daniel Alfredsson. goals - 4.2. On Edit: Geez, garf, I didn't even see yours before mine. We (sob) agree.

I didn't want to do total number of goals, because that ties in too closely with your "number of games" pick. I wanted to keep it as independent from the other picks as possible. I wasn't planning on including overtime minutes—just goals per game, not goals per 60 minutes. I think enough overtime-prediction is worked into goals-per-game anyway. Low-scoring games are more likely to go into multiple overtime periods than barnburners would be, so your picking tendencies towards overtime are still reflected somewhat in a goals-per-game pick. So I would say goals per game, not 60 minutes. Unless there's a groundswell of opinion against it... ?

weedy, lets just say I'm not looking forward to the next decade of heckling. DJE, goals per game rather than goals per 60 mins is my preference.

Ooh, yeah. And apparently Muckler has a house in Incline Village on the north shore of Tahoe (home to me.) Should the Sens bring the cup home, rumor has it it will pay a visit to a local sports bar where Mucks spends a lot of time. Gonna post a picture of myself and Lord Stanley, hopefully.

Alfredsson, as much as I hate to admit it, deserves the Conn Smythe. As for the winner, my mind says Ottawa but my heart says Anaheim... and considering how screwed over Canadian teams have been in the last two finals ANA in 7. 4.6 GPG

Ducks in 5 Andy McDonald 5.0 GPG Go 'Gate! On edit: there should be more bonus points this round. I just realized I can't win, and I think that applies to most of the contestants...

Is that a Family Guy reference or the first base coach of the Angels? Not much of a resemblance to the Swede in either case. I suppose I should refrain from abbreviations and nicknames of rival team's players, but I never really was into 'supposed to'.

One lousy point. Throw in the Wings losing and me not actually being qualified for the Costanza after missing a round and this has become a very depressing PickEm.

I can't believe I'm not in last place, despite my absolute lack of confidence in the Sens so far. I've picked against them in every round, and every round, they've mocked me. Screw you guys, anyway. The Fearsome Waterfowl of the Greater Los Angeles - Anaheim Basin in 6 Chris "Conn Smythe" Pronger 5.4 goals per game

Well, hell, I guess if I'm going to have any chance of winning this thing, my answers have to be different than apoch's. So make the gnome change, will ya? No? Lets go with Anaheim in 6, just to give it the old college try. Then make it Emery and a 3.9. Gotta go down swingin'. [Insert your own sport cliche here.]

And apparently while he was recovering from the appendectomy, he adjusted the grip on a couple of his pitches and actually improved his cutter. This guy is nuts. Who has an appendix removed and comes back a better pitcher? Next thing you know, all young pitchers will immediately go for appendectomies if they falter early. They'll call it "Roy Halladay surgery". And I think its effect on the Stanley Cup final is obvious.

Thinking about the average goal per game bonus... If the series goes 7 games, a single goal will add 0.1428 to the average. Therefore, for each of us there's only one goal total (per series length) that can get us the bonus. So the odds are very slim.

Well there goes my pick for a sweep.

This isn't pick'em related or SCF series related, and is Leafs-centric, but definitely worth a read for the league wide analysis.

So nobody picked Pahlson for the Connie Smythe? I know defensive forwards are rarely recognized by sports writers, but do you think he has a chance?
posted by qbert72 at 02:48 PM on May 31, 2007
If he can continue to shut down the pizza line in Kanata, he'll be hard to ignore. But Murray should be able to get his trio away from the Ducks' checkers, so I don't think that will happen.
