MLB and MLBPA announce a deal with the Cuban Baseball Federation that allows Cuban baseball players a safe and legal way to sign with a MLB club.: The objective of the agreement, which is the product of years of negotiations with the FCB, is to end the dangerous trafficking of Cuban players who desire to play professional baseball in the United States, a practice that has been documented in legal proceedings and media reports, and which has caused significant hardship to Cuban players and their families.

SportsFilter NBA Pick 'Em Week 10: Close to Vlade Edition: A slim national slate of four NBA games has been supplemented by two from NBA TV. Games to pick begin Wednesday night out west when Oklahoma City visits Sacramento, the land of love and positivity where everyone is close to Vlade Divac. As close as one can be to a 7-foot-1 Serbian colossus. There was absolute carnage in the Pace Mannion NBA Pick 'Em last week, which Bender won with 0 points. I remain in first by 20, over Howard_T and NoMich. Make your selections.

José Mourinho Sacked by Man United: José Mourinho has been fired by Manchester United after the team's worst start in 28 years. The Reds' 3-1 loss at Liverpool left them 19 points below the leader and in sixth place in the table. Sportswriter Barney Ronay's assessment of the Special One's final game: "This was beyond dire – dire squared, dire football played in dire fashion by a dire selection. Imagine a bad plan, enacted badly, by someone not very good at enacting bad plans. Imagine a negative approach, applied with extreme negativity by a group of players feeling negative about the actual merits of all this negativity. Why would anyone want to keep doing this?"

The Great Heist: How Fox Paid for and Changed Football Forever: A long, but excellent oral history from Bryan Curtis at The Ringer on how Fox went big for the NFL and ended up becoming the fourth major broadcast network in the process. Lots of fun nuggets in there, including the facts that (1) at the time John Madden signed with Fox for the 1994 NFL season, he was paid more annually than the highest paid NFL player, and (2) at the time it was introduced, people hated the "Fox Box" (the box containing the running clock and score at the top corner of the screen).

SportsFilter NFL Pick 'Em Week 15: Miracle in Miami Edition: With only three weeks left in the NFL season, the Chargers visit the Chiefs tonight and two more early games are played Saturday. In SportsFilter's NFL Pick 'Em, Truthhurts climbs to a 44-point lead on a week-winning 64, followed by Tron7 and Ic23b. If you're having trouble believing you can still win this, keep this number in mind: 99.9%. It's the Patriots' win probability before the final play against Miami Sunday. Make your picks.

SportsFilter NBA Pick 'Em Week 9: His Name is Luka Edition: There are six national NBA games this week, beginning Wednesday night on ESPN when the first-place Thunder visit the Pelicans and ending Friday when they visit the Nuggets. In the Pace Mannion, I won the week and expanded my lead to 19, doing my best impression of a Slovenian in crunch time. NoMich ascends to second at 203 and Howard_T third at 199. Make your picks.

'I Would Strike Out Babe Ruth Every Time': "I had an argument with a coach in Triple-A about Babe Ruth's effectiveness in today's game. I said, 'Babe Ruth, with that swing, swinging that bat, I got him hitting .140 with eight homers.' "He was like, 'Are you nuts? Babe Ruth would hit .370 with 60 homers,' and I'm like, 'I would strike Babe Ruth out every time.'" -- Colorado Rockies reliever Adam Ottavino

SportsFilter NFL Pick 'Em Week 14: Shut the F--- Up, Thielen Edition: Week 14 of the NFL season begins tonight with a game I will always view as a revenge opportunity for the 1999 AFC Championship Game: Jaguars vs. Titans. There's a new leader in the SportsFilter Pick 'Em for the first time in 10 weeks -- Truthhurts scored 72 to take an 11-point lead over Tron7. Ic23b stays in third. Jagsnumberone wins the week with 74. Make your picks and never get in a yelling match with a man who was born ornery and only got worse from there.

SportsFilter NBA Pick 'Em Week 8: Don Knobler Edition: There are six national NBA games this week in the usual ESPN-TNT-ESPN pattern. The first tips off Wednesday night when Philly visits Toronto. We'll know a lot about the 17-8 Sixers after their two games, both on the road against hot teams that are conference title contenders. In the Pace Mannion, Florida Man is still in first, but Ufez has narrowed the lead to 14 and NoMich is in third. Howard_T wins the week with 30. Make your picks and never throw a hard bounce pass at this guy, even when he insults your mother.

Urban Meyer to Retire: Ohio State coach Urban Meyer plans to step down and will coach his final game in the Rose Bowl, sources told Yahoo Sports. A myriad of factors contributed to Meyer’s decision, but sources say foremost among them was his happiness with the state of the Ohio State program he inherited seven years ago. Meyer, 54, will be replaced by Ryan Day, the 39-year-old offensive coordinator who served as Ohio State’s interim coach earlier this season. Related Fun Big 10 Fact: no Big 10 football team has scored a single point in the college football playoff since Ohio State won the first CFB championship.
