Shit. I still owe some of you CDs from the last swap.
I feel shame.

First Touch: Sorry, it's a plug for my local weekly (free) soccer mag. Mostly recaps, but there are a few well written columns. They once in a while run an interesting series, like the story of the world cup and the greatest players in the world.

Currently, you have 10 minutes to edit your own post or comment. The Pantheon has forever minutes.
Can the non-Pantheon have rollover minutes?

(sorry for the RBNY link. Always thought we could post to the locker room without using a link. Delete away if necessary).
The guys in our group will probably be hitting up strip clubs, because apparently they can't find titty bars in the Greater Metropolitan New York Area. So it will most likely be me and a few other women hanging out Saturday night.

One guess who the venue management will be supporting.
About 400 people in attendance and only 1 England kit spotted.
Yay! I can post again!

What were the flipped birds in response to? ESPN showed the crowd right after the final whistle, and an American fan there was prominently flying the bird too.
The guy in the video was flipping off the ref. The fan flipping the bird on ESPN could have directed towards a number of people. The ref, the Mexican team, Mexico fans. It's a pretty heated rivalry. I saw one US fan get knocked the fuck out after the game outside the stadium. I think he was egging on the Mexican fan, but that's no excuse to punch on the guy. Luckily there was a cop nearby who managed to nab the puncher.

Here's a video of the final minutes. I'll have more up later with pics.
tselson, if weather was a concern for you, you were better off not going. We were soaked before we even got into the stadium. And the wind got pretty nasty at times. On the way out I almost got hit by a runaway pretzel cart.
I'm absolutely beat today, but the drive was so worth it. BTW, did anyone see the video of Frankie Hejduk getting slapped by a Mexico coach?

Only way I can afford this is by driving out there and back the same day. But this match only comes around once every four years so I figured it's worth the sleep deprivation. Thanks tselson. I'll be behind the goal (on the stage) with Sam's Army. Our group from NJ/NY has the first 4 rows so we won't be under the roof. But I should have plenty of pictures.
If we were staying longer we could hit Schmidt's, but my friend has to be back at work by 8am on Thursday.

I agree with making the guidelines more readily available, but I think pointing out that "irregardless" isn't a word was a bit much. The abundance of ellipses in that post seemed to be more of a problem. On preview, I think more specifically they should be shown this.

Tempt Destiny. So basically this artist, Manuel Morales, created billboards in support of the Giants before their appearances in Super Bowls XXI and XXV, both of which they won. However, when he offered to create a third billboard should the Giants return to the Super Bowl, they said no thanks. In 2000 Morales creates this Tempt Destiny thing where fans can vote to have a billboard made for any team (only catch is the team must make it to the Super Bowl in order for the billboard to be made). Giants fans lost the 2000 season vote, and the team lost the Super Bowl. Well, this year the Giants happened to win the vote and the billboard went up today. It was delayed a bit, thanks to some Patriots fans at Mammoth Media in Massachusetts, where the vinyl was made. Aside from the packaging they also wrote "Made in New England, Go Pats!" on the back.

My old files are still on a dead computer. Anyway, shirts are here. There are a couple generic shirts on there (uh, if you do order one make sure you don't get one with another member's name on the back). I'll try to get more up there soon. And hopefully I can get back to the customizing again at some point.

The more attention we give the good fpp's and the less we give the poor ones the better. what do you consider attention? commenting for the sake of commenting is no good. how many times can you write "this is good"? maybe we can have some sort of flagging system for good posts too, not just the bad ones? that way people can see what makes a good FPP, and it will give some encouragement to the person to posted it as well.
posted by goddam at 12:22 PM on November 06, 2007
Part of the problem, though, is that you can post a great FPP that gets very little attention because it's not about basketball, baseball, football or hockey. I still post a few "other" threads but I've mostly given up. why give up? because a post doesn't receive a lot of comments? a good FPP shouldn't be validated by the number of responses it gets. i find most of the better, well constructed FPPs tend to get the least amount of comments. don't let the lack of responses to discourage you from posting. it can only help balance out the signal to noise around here.

While I wrote what I did (about the link quality) in fairness to the concept of running a community, I also believe in my heart of heart that the quality of the link is irrelevant in this case. It could have been pulitizer prize winning journalism and the outcome would have been the same.."how dare you piss on the still burning embers of my team's defeat". i'm not going to speak for everyone. and when i say everyone that means the other person that was asked to explain their viewpoint here. because as far as i know there were only two of us that had issues and were in contact with admins. but personally, if there was a more relevant link or at least an additional one that expounded upon the possible departure of Torre and others, i wouldn't have had an issue. if you don't believe me that's fine. there's not really much i can do to convince you.
