This is where the SportsFilter last.fm group comes in handy. I can spy on what folks on my list listen to so I can either match my songs to their taste, or I can avoid duplications. So if you haven't already joined, please do!

Hm, Geniune Indiana Guru comes from Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show's "Cover of the Rolling Stone," and Frank Zappa and the Mommas (actually, I believe it's "the Mothers," but I could be wrong) comes from "Smoke on the Water," by Deep Purple. Zappa's "Montana" had the Dental Floss Tycoon in it (riding Mightly Little, no less!). I'm lost on Grouper Trouper, but for some reason, I'm thinking ABBA.

Is Grouper Trouper a Beefheart reference?

Wrong fish, chico. Beefheart rocked the trout, not the grouper. heh

NoMich, goddam, and vito90 - I hope you refrain from including Nickleback on your CD's. tahoe doesn't have to worry. I have never owned anything by Nickleback in my life. I even have an applet on my computer that automatically detroys any Nickleback mp3s should any accidently make their way onto my hard drive somehow.

(actually, I believe it's "the Mothers," but I could be wrong) Actually I believe you're correct (depending on if you're listening to a studio cut or live cut) although I haven't looked up the lyrics. On my bootleg copy of a Deep Purple concert in Frankfurt Ian Gillan clearly belts out 'mommas" A grouper is a nasty yet edible fish found in the Gulf of Mexico among other places. I thought Grouper Trouper might be tough to get. Those receiving a CD from me will know the song and artist soon enough. and how did I know you would get these right away TBH?

With all the obscure (to me) musical references made so far, I feel like I'm going to disappoint my group. It's upbeat, some mainstream stuff, some not. I guess you can salvage the jewel case if the CD sucks. (Crossing my fingers)

BoKnows: Don't worry about your mix. Just express yourself, your tastes, and—if you can—include local music. Nothing you send will disappoint. Each of us is about to receive new music that didn't cost us a dime (eff the RIAA!), so why would anyone be disappointed? I look forward to receiving your mix.

Well I haven't used LightScribe yet (and apparently I'm not going to) so I don't know how it works. Yeah, I obviously need to look more at my hardware instead of my software. My software (CyberLink LabelPrint) works like your everyday CD label maker, it was relatively simple to figure out, but my burner uses Labelflash not LightScribe (software is compatible with both, hence my earlier confusion).

Not as far as I can see. It's your shipping costs. And everybody gets two coasters that way, so if there happens to be someone on the Internet who has a friend in real life AND they're in your group, they'll be happy.

NoMich I ended up with a 3 CD set last year. I only sent 2 though because disc 3 was stuff not good enough to be on discs 1 or 2. Looks like this year may be a 2 disc set again, still editing songs.

mine is a two disc set as well, but it was planned from the beginning. finished the mix. working on graphics. not going to announce the track list until later.

Terrapin and folkways, thanks for the reassurances about my CD. I started to feel better, then I read about Light Scribe, and thought "shit", all I have is a sharpie marker. "Oh well", I thought, and blew it off. Now I'm reading about 2 disc sets, 3 disc sets, and graphics. This time my brain said, "Man, I'm a loser". Then I remembered that I burned the discs, put them in the jewel case, inserted the play list and mailed them without even using the gosh darn sharpie marker. So, your discs are not labeled at all. I have 50 GBs of music on my computer and I can't seem to make a CD. Now I feel like the noob that I am. I'm gonna need a one SpoFiSwap free pass. Unless you all like the music. Then everything's cool.

You truly crack me up Bo. Mine are labeled using sharpies, no graphics mumbo jumbo here. Maybe once you get my CD's you wont feel so bad. I did at least label them though.

Thanks to tahoemoj, I got CD number one today. So far it's been very illuminating. The first Eels song I went, "So that's who they are! I've always kinda liked this song." Then the Cake song kicked in and I was all like, "Hey! This is the theme song for that couple that does the special 'on the road' report for NPR's Splendid Table." So far, it's been a very good house cleaning mix. I have a feeling that it may be getting a lot of life in my back deck's boombox this coming summer.

Excellent combination of stuff I know like Alan Parsons, the Toadies, and Lenny Kravitz to stuff I have not heard like Wolfmother, Silverchair, and Clutch. And I did not know that Tom Morello, Flea, Henry Rollins had released an album, great stuff. I have been listening to it all morning and set it in my top 25 rotation in my multi disc CD player.
