Spofiswap 2 - Son of Spofiswap: Another Sportsfilter Music Swap? Why yes, let's!
Details can be found here, but it's pretty much the same as last year: You make a few copies of one mix CD that you create, send them out to four people, and get four new mix CDs in return. It's like a pyramid scheme, only more rectangular, or some such. Maybe it's a straight line? Whatever. I suck at math and geometry. You get the point. You send four CDs, you get four CDs.
The deadlines we set for the swap are a bit optimistic, and the number of groups and people per group can always change a little, but we hope to keep the changes from last year to a minimum. Goddam already has some awesome ideas for this year's team names and logos, so this should be lots of fun. Again.
Follow the instructions on the site linked to above if you're interested. Hope to hear from you soon.
P.S. "Spofiwap 2 - Electric Boogaloo" was too obvious.

I'm in. Overseas postal charges for four unlucky SpoFites.

Never, ever skip an opportunity to use "Electric Boogaloo." That's one righteous dude's gift to humanity, and to pass up the chance to use it the way he & the good lord intended is straight-up disrespect, dawg. Ah, who am I kidding. I'll play too.

I was interested, but too short of time between sign up and deadline to ship if people will be punching faces. Let me know if anyone uploads their masterpieces to somewhere I can download :)

Did we do this at the same time last year? For some reason, I don't remember it being during the hectic holiday season. Any chance of the deadline being pushed back into the much more manageable month of January?
posted by The_Black_Hand at 06:22 AM on November 21, 2007
terrapin, don't worry, I think there's at least one individual from last year with four CDs to be mailed and an intact face. But I agree that it would be best to put the deadline off a bit if poss. (yeah, I'm in. totally different theme than last year's Grand Ultimate Funk Mix.)
posted by lil_brown_bat at 07:44 AM on November 21, 2007
I can't do it during Christmas (holiday balls, you know -- ha!) being busy with the store and all, but I'd love to be in if it's a January thang.

Fuck. I hate to commit to this because it feels close to "work" for me, but with owlhouse and NoMich in, I'll take a spin. Don't be expecting labels or fancy covers, suckers.

Don't be expecting labels or fancy covers, suckers. Good. Who needs the pressure? Re: the deadline, I'll be in regardless, but you'll likely not hear my submission until well after New Year's.
posted by The_Black_Hand at 08:27 AM on November 21, 2007
I totally have better things to do, but fuck it, I'm in. Also, what fatty said re: labels and covers. Sharpie is what you get and you'll like it!

ok, deadline to signup is the same (November 30th). don't think there's a need to change that. the new deadline to send is January 5th. that will give everyone a solid month to get their shit together. oh, and a note for anyone overseas... when sending us your mailing address try to provide it in a format that will ensure your CD arrives without trouble. i know that some countries are picky about how things are addressed so if you have any tips for the rest of us it would be greatly appreciated.

I'd love to join but I sent my e-mail in three days late. And the only excuse I can offer is: Ignorance. So I throw myself on the mercy of the locker room spofi swappers. If chosen I promise to fill a CD with 70 minutes worth of balls to the wall 70's british punk (maybe some Nirvana and Green Day thrown in as well). Unless my son hijacks it in which case it might be ANARCHY IN THE UK followed by TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR

My 16 y.o. daughter is a big fan of The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers and the Pistols. One can only hope. He has developed a real taste for The Police but that's because he thinks that they are the actual Police (as in the LAPD). We saw a cop the other day and he asked me if it was Sting.

I'm stunned that anybody under the age of 40 has even heard of Stiff Little Fingers. Inflammable Materials is one of the greatest punk albums of all time. I feel now feel pretty good about the future of this world. Now if they knew anything about Crass...

That's a different Spofi Swap and requires more planning. It's hard to send kids through the post, especially overseas.
posted by yerfatma at 07:11 AM on December 04, 2007
Yeah they'll willingly go with you to the post office if you tell them you're going to the Apple Store, but you'd be surprised at how resistant they are about being weighed on that little scale and sticking stamps to their foreheads. Huh. Kids.
posted by jerseygirl at 07:32 AM on December 04, 2007
You justed waited too long. They're more complaint the younger they are, and since they are lighter it's cheaper to ship!

I'll see your Moonshadow and raise you a Video Killed The Radio Star. Say what you want about the Buggles, but Video Killed the Radio Star was MTV's first video. Ya know back when they played music videos. Now M Factors "Pop Music" I could have done without. I mean really now, I did not want to Talk About....Pop Music, Talk About.....Pop Music, Nor did I wish to, "Shoo Bee Doo Bee Doo Wop"

Sorry to disappoint my fan, but with the planning of nupitals on top of the regular holidays, I'll be lucky to have enough time to maintain adequate sanity levels. Which is to say my busy life is all an elaborate excuse to cloak my lackadaisical music pursuits of late. I'm so out of it, I just figured out who Justice is. Please be sure to post songlists of everybody's stuff. I love googling all the tunes that are shared.

I had eye surgery some time ago, and it's been a rough go at it. I now have 20/20 in my right eye and 20/-2.5 in my left. So I can read street signs and stuff if I close my left eye, but when I close my right eye I can see the horrible, inevitable future. The future is this: four more people will sign up for the Spofiswap. Do it, you four. P.S. - yerfatma, your next visit to the Cask and Flagon will be your last.
