I can't exactly say why, but I vote against this, at least in the form of a facebook-ish "like" action. I like the "+ 1" vibe around here when someone says something particularly insightful. Too many times in facebook "discussions," you see two camps arguing against each other, and each comment is followed by a handful of "likes" from everyone in the writer's camp. To me, it gets really annoying. That being said, I'm not a member of metafilter, and don't know how their "favorites" system works.
Please "like" this comment if you agree.

No. Looks like straight objectivity to me. It relates to the book reviewer's state of mind. After the reviewer read the book, he had no doubt as to Armstrong's guilt. It is a statement of 100% fact.

Funny, ever since undergrad, this atheist has found the CSM to be one of the finest news sources out there. People who know my religious and political leanings normally think I'm being sarcastic when I say what a good paper it is.

Hey, you weren't alone in attacking TMZ. Although, I wasn't really doing it so much to criticize the FPP as to seize the opportunity to take a shot at TMZ. And from what I understand, they're still stinging at the taunting they suffered at the rapier-like pair of keyboard fingers of tahoemoj.
Beyond that, I wouldn't read too much into it. As long as there are willing and able front page posters, of whom rcade is the most prolific, there will be others standing by to criticize a given post. It's discussion like anything else and, in my opinion, in no way detracts from the pleasant diversion of visiting this site.

I'd also rather be informed (sometimes chiming in, sometimes not) of some off-the-radar, nuanced, quirky sports stories than the latest ESPN-megahyped garbage. I can read headlines on Yahoo, I come to Spofi to see more. For the record, I thought that was a quality post, I just didn't have anyting to say about it.

What's the locker room?
My vote is to keep it, unless it's too much of a headache for those responsible. In that case, I'm sure I could live without it.

I'd throw the 1992 US men's basketball "dream team" into that mix (sans Christian Laettner, of course.) Jordan, Magic, Bird, Barkley, Ewing, Malone, Drexler, and Robinson were every bit as dominant as they were supposed to be. A quick Wiki check has ten of the twelve members among the NBA's all-time 50 best players.

We should all just relax and watch a movie.

My son is 11 years old. He watches movies with profanity in them, he hears it from his friends, and sometimes (when I'm fixing plumbing) he hears it from me. He has been taught that just because he hears something doesn't mean it's o.k. to repeat it in school, mixed company, or society in general. There's a time and a place for profanity like when the fucking Yankees win the World Series and a time to refrain from it. Teach your child that, and he'll be fine. If his Asperger's makes that difficult, then so be it, perhaps you should refrain from allowing him to peruse sports forums. But to condescendingly tell longtime members here that your son is more educated than them because they swear in a sports forum is ridiculous. And to browbeat them because of your apparent lack of parental control is, quite frankly, bullshit. I won't swear on the Nickelodeon website, and I bet tommytrump is willing to make the same deal.

Why do people want to be good in the first place? How much of it is because they want others to think they are a good person? And if so, isn't this rather selfish and therefore diminishes the whole reason for being good?

I'm in the same boat as NoMich. School is kicking my ass (no coincidence that I've been active the last few weeks - winter break!) Got some great stuff last year, though, and would encourage any fence-sitters to join up. There's just too much good stuff out there to be discovered!
p.s. did Katy Perry ever give any acknowledgment to Jill Soubule for ripping her song off?

No matter where this goes, I'm with lbb. It makes my skin crawl when I read a post wherein every word that isn't monosyllabic is misspelled. I'm guilty of more than my share of typos, but damn. If you look at the angry response posted there, it's freakin hilarious. After misspelling at least 10 more words (I'm going to go back and count now) the author gleefully points out his one intentional misspelling. Just a quick spellcheck might make posts infinitely more palatable.

I'm with you Mr. Frisby. Can't hurt to have another blueliner with some experience, especially when you look at Colin White's aches and pains, but why not leave well enough alone? There isn't a team in the league right now playing better hockey (by that I mean winning games) than the Devs, and it seems to be coming largely from chemistry. There isn't a single marquee player outside the crease on that team, yet they just took over tops in the East from loaded teams like the Senators and Penguins. That success coming with Janssen a healthy scratch most nights, so, no big loss. Strikes me as a character trade similar to the Grant Marshall one in '03, and we all know where that went!
