what do you expect with Dick Bavetta... He's the Eliot Ness enforcer of superstardom. Apparently, guarding Duncan is a foul. Standing in front of your opponent and holding up your hands is a punishable offense. As The association points out no matter how the calls go, the spurs are whiney whiney whiney.

what i like about the story is that he uses statistical analyses to disprove the lies and damned lies, but bi-line is an homage to a famous quote from Sam Clemens (aka Mark Twain, jik): 'There are lies, damned lies and then there are statistics'

I'll read it especially if he reviews chuck pahlauniak novels. I thank the internet for many things, one of which being the possibility for normal (or slightly xxl) white guys to have their chance to overwork sentences in an attempt to add sardonic wit to the annals of every career possible. i like the dude. i'm serious. I'll be waiting for him to knee sportsguy in the kidneys and take his spot.

well drevl, we know what side you're on. i don't want this to turn into a mefi-like pissing contest, but that, right there, are a series of broad generalizations. I don't want to assume, but it sounds to me like you are saying the 'hood' is where the black people are, and where the black people are, republicans are not. that says a lot about everyone involved, i think.

the problem in KC is the coach-- after this many years, he should understand the necessity of defense the problem in Denver is Jake the Snake-after this many years, he shouldn't make rookie mistakes. He didn't make that many last night, ergo, they won, but we've all seen Jake play like a champion, and like a chump, a week apart.

well, as long as they cut Qyntel -I hate dogs- Woods to make space on the bench, I'll call it a good trade. Maybe Payton will pull a Jerry Rice and understand his reduced roll?

well, the fact that Isiah Thomas picked up QRich is proof he's overvalued. I like most of what the Suns have done this summer, especially the KThomas trade. Remember how well Amare held down the D in the playoffs? He was amazing, but not quite enough. A guy like Kurt will solidify the interior D more than Hunter did. With the addition of Brian Grant, they'll have 12 fouls and 500lbs of backup to Amare's vicious D. I also think that the suns dodged a bullet not signing Johnson. I think Diaw will play very well with Barbosa, making a much more cohesive second squad. Dijon thompson is underrated- he carried Ucklah when he was there. If they get finley, well, i think we all know what will happen. *cue the Queen*

amen dbt- however McNabb may feel about TO, he has to toe the party line and try his best to keep the team cohesive. As much as 'pundits' decry TO or, in the case of Jason Whitlock, who thinks he's got the right to renegotiate, The Eagles are a corporation with a unified goal /vision, McNabb is the face of it. Keeping the faith--at least publicly--is part of his job description.

Joe Dumars pulled the trigger on the Milicic pick; I think Joe needs Darko to do SOMETHING (at least become tradeable) to save some face. It is, as it stands, the largest stain on what has been a successful tenure as GM, but its a pretty big one.

seems to me that the question here is not whether GM deserves to get in to the HOF; the question is whether the FUBAR voting system (and those who vote) will let him in. If the media who loved/hated him so much get to choose his HOF fate, doesn't that make the HOF a f*****n popularity contest? I think enough of the voters work for Turner that GM will get in, blemished media record or not. He's in. in my completely unenlightened, turner hating opinion, he's in.

I didn't get a chance to watch college football last year, so I can't speak about Mr. Smith here. I think that the major question mark with the niners this year is their new coach. No one knows how well he will do managing NFL salaries, egos and the impatient SF public. then again, the only thing he really has to do to last more than one year is finish ahead of the Raiders.

haven't seen much of this, but for clarification, Robert Swift (C, Seattle) came straight out of high school, and they don't come much paler than he. I think that David Stern is trying to save college basketball, but that isn't his job. The NCAA has to figure out how to make top players want to go to college. How? beats me, but this is an NCAA issue, not an NBA one
