Maybe he just wanted to get p-ssed off? Moises Alou allegedlly used to do the same on his hands before batting. Did it work, I dunno. Maybe he just did'nt like pine tar.

Can anyone not think of that Moises Alou story when you see him come up to bat? Bare-handed, no less.

Posada does it during spring training, too. Not sure about Vlad though. They may be the only 3 guys in the majors that still don't wear batting gloves. I guess it's supposed to help build up calluses or something to that effect.

Mabry is on his third go-around with the Cardinals. Doug Mientzxclvzkncxvzlnc doesn't wear batting gloves.
