Publicity Stunt? - You Decide: With all the negative talk about him do you think T.O.'s intentions are pure? Maybe the motive doesn't matter if the outcome is good. Just thought it might get some discussion.

Just because he might have questionable behavior in a sports atmosphere, it doesn't mean he's not a charitable person.

Is it just a publicity stunt? If some seriously needy people get additional help, no, it can't be just that. Is it the best way he and his agent could think of to help out and draw attention to himself at the same time? I'd give that a yes.

The only ones that misacted the whole situation was the media. Dispite T.O.'s true feelings, the media are the ones that overreacted and blew this thing on the front page everywhere. I believe the only business the fan and athlete have together, should be what is televised on FOX sunday afternoon.

To be honest, you should check TO's website to see what he does for the Alzheimers fund. All people have their down side, TO happens to have a bad attitude almost childish. However hes never been in the news for drug dealing/smoking weed/spousal abuse/rape, like some NFL players. He happens to be a "well publicized baby". When it comes to him giving, hes at the top of the list. TO was raised by his grandmother(who suffers from alzheimers)(meaning his parents were not around)that has an affect on some people. This is not a stunt. There are people that need help. And he is helping. How a person can be judged negatively for that is beyond me. Im sure you'll find some TO hater that can spin this into something negative. I went to high school with larry webster in MD. He got a ring coming of the bench for the ravens the year they won it.These are not 3k rings. These rings(some championship/superbowl) are worth between 15-20k (just from a jewelry aspect)which is far above the 5k warrick dunn is saying each player should donate. Im sure the people affected would be grateful.

My first thought is that T.O. makes enough cash that he doesnT have to auction off his Super Bowl ring to be charitable. But see, that wouldn't draw enough attention to himself. He needs the ego booster.

Buzz this one by ya! Does T.O. ever do anything not intended to draw attention to himself. Most children get over this in grammar school. T.O. is an overgrown brat.

I believe this is not a stunt. I think his heart is in the right place. Not much different from what other athletes are doing. Now on Monday when he and McNab "kiss and Make up" on national TV--that will be a stunt! Just wait and see!

The first I'd read about this was that he wasn't going to accept the ring anyway so by auctioning it off he can avoid the "not accepting" it part and look generous in the process. Now that sounds pretty cynical and I don't know where I read that, but there's the publicity stunt angle.

Thinking that I know him (which I nor anyone else does) he might not care about the NFC championship ring because he did not help them win it. He helped get them to the playoffs and caught some passes in the Super Bowl, but if I remember correctly it was the team minus TO that actually won the NFC. I could easily see him not giving a crap about that ring anyway.

If you think about it. Its a lose lose situation for him.If he does nothing, he's a greedy bastard with to much money. If he does something that will help these people that have lost everything, he's doing it for attention. Again, if anyone is related to someone with Alzheimers disease, you should check terrellowens.com for his link about the disease and the foundation he donates to. His grandmother suffers from the disease. TO has donated to many charitys well before this BS with Mcnabb. He's guilty of being a big baby sometimes, big deal. He has no drug arrests/no domestic violence/no rape claims, like many NFL players(some in the hall of fame). I havnt seen any big storys about TO and this ring. I think the only attention its getting is from us. WAIT!!! just think, if this FPP didnt exist,TO would just be auctioning the ring to help those people with no attention to himself what so ever. Are we MORE guilty by giving him the "attention" that we're not even sure he is seeking? Some people are just pure haters.I mean really think about these phrases. "I dont like the way TO helps the victims of Katrina" "He's not doing it the way "i" think he should". If some of you haters put as much effort in helping those in need as you do hating TO, the crisis would be over by now. lets end this thread with this Compare what TO is doing for the victims to what "YOU" are doing for the victims...pretty sad huh? Start a "i hate TO" thread, bash him to death. Talk about his Momma for all i care. But never judge someone for helping people in need. Skydivemom, nice thread. It caused some people to think, and it caused some to show their "true colors"

So he is auctioning a ring he didn't pay for to raise money. Why not dip into his own pocketss to show that he was actually sacrificing? I don't think was a publicity stunt, but it still rings hollow (get it? rings.). It is like music stars who put on a benefit concert for some horrible event but don't put up any money. They get all the press for "giving" when in fact it was the people who attended who sacfriced thei hard-earned dollar for The Cause. It doesn't make the musician a bad person, it just means they don't deserve more credit than others who sacrificed as well. I hope TOs auction goes/went well. And I hope it helps. Certainly better than the government's debit card plan. Oh, and TO's mamma's wears army boots. I gave money to the Red Cross and took a whole bunch of items to the aid drive that was held on the grounds of the state capitol. I was all out of championship rings. So, Mr. Holier Than Thou, did I show my true colors? Or do I have to fawn over an asshole too? I wish people would stop bringing up how TO was raised by his grandmother. It makes her look bad. Can we get a moritorium on TO threads, please. At least until he suits up and plays.

Wow! What a humanitarian! Give me a break! Now watch closely my little sheep. Owen's is selling the "Eagles" ring...not his. This is just another slap at the organization. Like...I don't need your ring...I'll go with some other team that will pay for my classless moves, uncontrolled mouth and limited abilities...yes limited. Just like Own's intentions. The ring is the teams? The ring has his number and name clown. He is on the team. Why would someone wanting a "moratorium" on TO threads read (and post)on one? Makes you wonder. I gave money to the Red Cross and took a whole bunch of items to the aid drive that was held on the grounds of the state capitol. I was all out of championship rings. So, Mr. Holier Than Thou, did I show my true colors? Right on "TERRAPIN". A lot of us have donated money or clothes for the hurricane victims in silence Unreal, "in silence". Are you 2 seeking attention for the things you've done? Why mention it? Now should we question your motives for giving? Why donate things? Why not buy all new things? Hear how that sounds? Its foolish to question anything people do that will help others. Like i said, some people's hate is down right sickening. This guy could give a kidney to a cancer patient and some of you people would say he's doing it to get on web MD's website. Cant wait to hear the crying if this guy wins a superbowl. He's doing something to help the victims of katrina, ask them how much they give a fuck where the money comes from. I could see some of you begging some of the less fortunate down on the golf coast to turn the money away that comes from this ring. Just because TO torches the secondary of your favorite team. The way you guys talk makes me think that you're exactly the type of fans like the guy who ran on the court in detroit, and got dropped by jermaine O'neal. Theres more to life than to cry about someone being a crybaby. Limited abilities? Theres your proof. Lets see, you're a niners, cowboys,or ravens fan. The best receiver in the NFL has limited abilities. Poor fellow, your team will get better. Whats next a thread calling TO the "N" word because he gave 100k to the Alzheimers foundation?

It's too bad some clowns live in a cartoon world. Grow up and tell me truthfully you think Owens does anything for anybody else. Kidney...give me a freaking break moron. You MUST have a short memory? Or were you at the movies? The only way you could have missed Owen's "classy" performance crying about his "shortchanged" contract. Bringing in the media while he showed all his class. Yep...sure is tough trying just to feed a family on a few paltry multi-million per year nowadays. You are exactly the reason/type of fan why Pro Football has a bad name. They say water seeks it own level clown. And to answer your stupid statement...I follow Brett Farve and the Packers. Proud of it too. Farve IS a class act. Unlike Owens who couldn't even spell the word. Or are you going to drone on how Farve got "addicted" to painkillers because his body is so busted up. You would do that. So would Owens. Ever watch any fucking sports program clownboy? Tune in anyday and listen in each show who does nothing but praise Farve. That's a class act you clown. My life does not revolve around being a fan. I played the game... Trust me...I can spot a waterboy from the way he talks. You son...are a waterboy. Like I said...water seeks its own level clown.

WTF are you talking about? All I see here is your allegiance to a player you believe in. How is your blind love of Favre any different from a Philly fan who backs TO? Some people root for the laundry. Favre has been a shadow of his former self for a few years now, yet we're supposed to celebrate his every idiotic decision during his last couple of victory laps because he's a veteran. He's starting to smell like the corpse of Cal Ripken Jr. And no one cares a whit for your waterboy diving rod. Put it back in your too-tight shorts.
