2006 NHL Confidence Pool: Here are the final standings. We already knew that DrJohnEvans had 1rst place locked up. However, NoMich not only gets 2nd place, his team wins the Stanley Cup. grum@work, despite his extraordinary math skills, finishes in a respectable 3rd.
Hell, I thought Montreal was going to beat them. And I thought Detroit was a lock against Edmonton (who got into the playoffs not really because of their record, but the fact that Vancouver lost something like 6 out of their last 8 games). So I think my position was well earned. Yay!

The only way I could have been more wrong about the finals was if I picked the Eskimos to win in four games. Of course, I beat Samsonov14. So I got that going for me...

6th. Not too bad. I got one of the two finalists right (Carolina) the other was out in the first round (Calgary). I picked the wrong Alberta team.

The infamous "pick what you don't want to happen" offense succeeds once more. I expect to see this strategy put to use worldwide in fantasy leagues, game shows, political campaigns, etc. Thanks to MrSk8rby for moderating, and thanks to qbert for not fixing the "bug" that made Calgary and Edmonton the same team. Everything west of Winnipeg looks the same to me, anyway.

Update: please correct to "fantasy leagues, game shows, political campaigns, and the CFL Pick 'Em in which you should be playing".

Congrats to the "Good Doctor". I only prove to myself again that I can't pick a winner to save my life. It's like self flagellation even trying. Having finished below the "Spofie Collective" only adds salt to the wounds. Urgh........ Looking forward to grums NHL Fantasy League. Skater... Thanks for making my Hockey Season even more enjoyable and grum you rock. Can't wait for Training Camp to open!

grum@work, despite his extraordinary math skills, finishes in a respectable 3rd. I'd like to think it's because not despite... It's true. "Because" is, in fact, grum@ically correct.

Every pick I made was completely wrong. I don't think one prediction I made all playoffs long came true. How did I end up in 9th place (respectable in my book but I have lower standards than Tom Sizemore) on top of some hockey juggernauts like Weedy, Chico, the Former Njsk8r and gspm? More importantly how did some dude named after a wrestling move finish in 7th?

It's true. "Because" is, in fact, grum@ically correct. Nice! How long have you been waiting to use that one chico? Sorry for the wording there grum. I proved to myself that I don't know as much as I think I do when it comes to hockey. DrJohn told me before that Detroit and Dallas were not as good as their win/loss record indicated, but did I listen? It was an honor to share these playoff moments with you guys, both at the Campfire and at the NJ/Car game. I can't wait until next season.

COOOOOOOO-STANZA! I'd like to thank the Wings (my 16) and Flames (14) for tanking and the Oilers (my 1) for winning 15 games. 2 games into the MTL-CAR series I was feeling pretty good what with my pick of Montreal at 13. But then the Canes changed goalies.

How long have you been waiting to use that one chico? Maybe a couple of months. And don't call me "juggernaut." It's not a question of whether I can jog or not. I can't. In pools, I am extremely beatable.

A couple more wrong picks and I would actually get something of distinction. Now I just get 2nd to last place, which is worse than the Costanza.

You're looking at it all wrong, YYM. If second place is the first loser, then second-to-last is the first winner. Cheers to the first winner! Of course, that reasoning makes Dr. John the last winner. That doesn't sound very flattering. Just the same, I'll toast you, too, DJE. As for the Costanza... well... I picked the Rangers at 16 and I finished well out of last. You have a gift, gspm. A gift that nobody can ever take away from you. And to that, one last toast.

Cpngrats to all the winners. You guys sure have made my first Hockey playoffs so much fun. Thanks to all! This new fan will definately be back for the next year!

You're looking at it all wrong, YYM. If second place is the first loser, then second-to-last is the first winner. Cheers to the first winner! When I first read that it made perfect sense. Now I've re-read it about five times and still can't understand what you are trying to say.

I didn't win a damned thing, but I do have one thing to comfort me. I beat this one guy so bad, he changed his name to MrFrisby. I heard that he hangs out with a bunch of rats, anyway.

If only I'd given the Oil a little more credit. That's okay, I can sleep easier knowing the Cup resides in my former home state. Go 'Canes!

If second-to-last is the first winner, then third-to-last must be real good. Thanks to everyone who put this together. My first Confidence Pool. Fun stuff.

I came so close to being the SpoFi Collective. Since I had given a lowly 5 to the Hurricanes and 4 to the Oilers, that's not so bad. The Sabres saved me from complete humiliation.

32 out of 36 is both a fair reflection of my understanding of hockey and the fact that I entered with no prior research at all. I was borrowing someone else's laptop at the time, and I was in the middle of Sri Lanka, supposedly at work and just 'checking my emails'. Thanks to all who made it happen, but thanks for nothing (and I mean nothing), Red Wings.

How very Canadian of me...another podium finish, but not the gold. grum@work, despite his extraordinary math skills, finishes in a respectable 3rd. I'd like to think it's because not despite... However, I did not calculate on Carolina getting by NJ, so that cost me the title.
