Sp_rtsfilter : the "o" in the header - can we get a hockey puck into the rotation?

That's a puckin' great idea.

Not until the NHL strike is settled! If that isn't incentive enough for the two sides to come to an agreement, nothing is.

Can we get a picture of Ron Artest's head into the rotation?

posted by Mr Bismarck at 02:37 PM on December 23, 2004

It's a lockout, not a strike. Am I a jerk for pointing that out? I hope not.

If someone with graphics-editing chops can create a puck at an angle so that it forms an "o", I'd love to add it. I haven't done it because I can't make the edges look good.

There is more to hockey than just the NHL.

Oddly enough, the Ron Artest head logo is hynoptic and soothing. I'm gonna go do some yoga or something.

Hey, anything that keeps the SpoFi/Ron Artest meme cruising along is cool with me. Put it up! Put it up! Put it up! Attica!

Nice work. Is that a Minnesota Wild puck? As long as it ain't the Canadiens, that's cool.

it's a spofi puck.

I think a tennis ball should go up before a hockey puck, since the next Grand Slam event will happen much sooner than the next NFL hockey game.

posted by lil_brown_bat at 09:06 AM on January 03, 2005

I see we have a couple of brilliant artists in our midst. That rotating Artest head needs to go up. And if someone can make the puck kind of shoot in from an angle into the open space, then ricochet all over the title before settling back into its spot (crowd roar audio would be a bonus), it would make my new year. Brilliant.

posted by NoMich at 10:03 AM on January 03, 2005

NFL Hockey would rock, but who'd be in your starting first line? Having given it exactly seven seconds of thought, I'd, (literally), wedge Ted Washington in net, relying on girth over ability there. Zach thomas and Roy Williams, (DAL), in defence, Marvin Harrison and Dante Hall on the wings and Shaun Alexander up the centre.

Gimme John Lynch on D...guy hits harder than Chris Pronger being pushed by Rob Blake...

posted by MeatSaber at 01:09 PM on January 03, 2005

Peyton Manning (center and C wearer), Jamaal Lewis (winger and A wearer), Terrell Owens (winger), Ray Lewis (D), Julius Peppers (D and A wearer), and Flozell Adams in goal (using Mr Bismark's strategy of girth in the net).

don't forget about vick and urlacher.

posted by goddam at 02:10 PM on January 03, 2005

No no no...you actually started a pretty neat game. Maybe somebody else will come up with a NFL inspired starting six.

posted by NoMich at 02:10 PM on January 03, 2005

I was thinking of Owens on the wing, actually, but I don't want him pouting if Alexander doesn't pass him the puck enough. Maybe if I was going for a big centre who's going to stand at the top of the crease and not be moved I'd stick Jamal Lewis in there, but I think Alexander brings me more moves in front of the net. Maybe a checking line of Urlacher, Peppers, J Lewis, Lynch and Derrick Brooks...

Goddam: Great stuff. Can you create a version of the logo like this, keeping all letters unchanged except for the puck?

posted by rcade at 07:56 PM on January 03, 2005

here ya go the designer in me was very tempted to fix the kerning as well but i controlled myself :-)

posted by goddam at 08:15 PM on January 03, 2005

Now that we've identified goddam and dusted as logo designers extraordinaire ... why stop at the puck? What other round sports objects do we need for the logo? We've got puck, soccer ball, baseball, basketball, Artest. Football? Do we have that? I think the baseball needs to be reworked. Too orange. Bowling ball! Cricket ball! And what about seasonal variations? Oh yes. Schwete ball!

posted by worldcup2002 at 11:04 PM on January 03, 2005

i'd be happy to offer my services (um, for the logo making). but only if i'm allowing to fix the kerning.

posted by goddam at 11:12 PM on January 03, 2005

Fix the kerning. And while you're at it, work up some ligatures, too (I'm thinking the "Fi" really needs it). Kids these days. They just don't respect the typography. And btw, "No one can resist my Schwetty balls." (.wav)

How about a dartboard? Or a Matador, his back arched in concentration? Or those spherical luge helmets? Or a potato (on a couch)? Or a fat naked guy at a College Football game covered in war paint? Or a tub of post-game ointment? Or the Sistine Chapel? Or a nice purple bruise left by a Ray Lewis hit? Or Secretariat's hoofprints? Or the bucket Glenn Hall threw up into before ever game he ever played?

posted by chicobangs at 10:21 AM on January 04, 2005

I put the Sistine chapel one in there to see if you were paying attention.

I thought it was round compared to the dreidel (and I thought the dreidel had a religious significance too but you'd used it in kind of a jokey way too). But, anyway, no offense was intended. I've actually worn a yarmulka. My first and only time was when I attended my friend's dad's funeral. I really should've just skipped the joke opportunity.

posted by worldcup2002 at 05:07 PM on January 05, 2005

Yah but a dreidel is more sports-related. I mean, if you're gonna have a poker chip or a billiard ball, why not a dreidel? Plus you could always bounce the dreidel off your opponent's head if they were winning.

posted by lil_brown_bat at 02:57 PM on January 06, 2005

dreidels have that nice pointy tip for easily causing injury to an opponent...
