Ticats prove they're not only bad, but clueless: The train wreck known as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats took their ineptitude to a higher level this week with the Monday hiring of controversial former Baylor head coach Art Briles to be an assistant coach, the reversing of Briles' signing by club officials on Tuesday, and the confirming of media reports that former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel received a tryout in Buffalo last week.

Harvey Impacts LSU/BYU Game in Houston on Saturday: Saturday's college football game between LSU and BYU was going to be played in Houston, but the catastrophic flooding and damage from Hurricane Harvey makes a move likely. It may be played in Baton Rouge or New Orleans. This would be three years in a row that an LSU game was displaced. In 2015, flooding moved a game from the University of South Carolina to Baton Rouge. In 2016, Hurricane Matthew moved another from the University of Florida to Baton Rouge.

Is Mayweather-McGregor Too Dangerous to Allow?: Boxer Floyd Mayweather faces mixed martial artist Conor McGregor Saturday. The Association of Ringside Physicians believes the bout should never have been sanctioned because of McGregor's lack of boxing experience. "The thing I really fear, truly fear, is that somebody's going to get really hurt in this upcoming fight," group president Larry Lovelace said. He's not talking about Mayweather. Expected ticket sales are $70 million.

Jaguars Demote Blake Bortles in Preseason: The Jacksonville Jaguars will start Chad Henne in tonight's preseason game. Blake Bortles has been awful this preseason after the team picked up the 2018 option on his contract. In three seasons as a starter, Bortles has as many pick-6 interceptions as wins. An AP writer calls Bortles "an inconsistent passer who struggles with mechanics, accuracy and decisions." Otherwise he's good.

Skunk In The Outfield : How A Trick Play Almost Broke Baseball:
That's how it came to be that a Portsmouth sophomore named Johnny Pedrotty stood in right field in Game 2 of the Rhode Island state championship series, that a crowd of a thousand fans erupted into profane chaos, that a star infielder almost blacked out from the stress, and that Ulmschneider found himself unsure of how to stop what he'd unleashed. It's how, for two minutes and 32 seconds, baseball broke.
