I always thought the saddest plate appearances of all time were some of my attempts at batting when I was playing softball.

RE: the saddest inning in baseball--Good stuff, but am I the only one who questions the validity of his calculations regarding crowd size? He extrapolated the crowd in attendance by using outfield seats as the baseline for every section, resulting in the 1.4% capacity he applied stadium-wide. That skews the numbers downward, in my experience. Had he used the sections behind home plate and around the dugouts, he would likely have skewed the numbers upward. Perhaps there were as many as 600 fans in attendance that fateful day.
