Matthew Stafford took them to the playoffs last season while the defense was busy being ranked 32nd in DVOA...yes, he does deserve it...

Even at 135 mil, it seems a little light. I think the Lions could have asked the Celtics to toss in a future second rounder as a cherry topper. When you're already getting too much, it never hurts to ask for more.
I would say that the Lions are more justified in overpaying Stafford than Scott Mitchell, but that's about as far as I would go in trying to rationalize it.
