Yeah, just checked ... seems to be the same problem. Ask mathowie how he fixed this.

MetaFilter used to have this bug (commenting on closed threads or even future threads) until about Summer 2005. Is SpoFi is still using that codebase?

It looks like non-members can email addresses. Requiring membership probably would not really stop anybody, but it's a start.

So I knew we lost the first 1000 or so threads awhile back due to some database problem. Has that problem grown quite a bit larger recently, at least in regards to the locker room? My posting history is decimated. .

dano: somebody in the campfire chat is named Dan O. Somebody is copping your name. Its my real name. I'm not copping anyone. And I changed my campfire name. Heh, seems I owe sk8r an apology as my real name is Dan M.

As it says atop the Locker Room, if you have a complaint about a member's conduct, contact the admins via e-mail. Does that email address work? I've written a couple times with no reply.

Yay for new folks in sportsfilter flickr group! We should find more ways to promote it, I wouldn't have guessed so many people didn't know about it. Maybe the Pantheon could replace the link to the SpoFi Wiki on the lockerroom front page with a link to the flickr group. The Wiki domain has expired, so the link now just acts as an ad for godaddy.com. (The wiki content is here, at least for now.) I sent an email about this to the address at the top of lockerroom front page a few weeks ago, but never heard anything back. Sorry to interrupt.

I guess that solves the "new member examination" issue. We've got an infallible pantheonian wielding the banhammer now.
posted by danostuporstar at 08:27 AM on April 20, 2005
Or would we just let people become full members based on complete silence, as long as they didn't say anything st00pid? Yes. Not much different then things are now. You act stupid, you get banned. Otherwise, you're full-fledged whether you're active or not. And how will they know when someone's 45 days are up? I would assume this would be handled programatically. No final vote neccesary. can the mods un-decline? Yes. I don't think we're talking about replacing the omnipotent powers of the Pantheon, but merely allowing some folks to be their little angels.

Are you suggesting we hold the dano, WC? Or something about 86's member and my number being bound together? Hey, what happened to the #anchor links on the timestamp (on the posted by line)? They show up on preview, but not in the actual thread.
posted by danostuporstar at 10:26 AM on April 19, 2005
Can someone tell me again what's wrong with rcade's original idea? The only objection I've noticed raised was potential abuse of the 'decline' button, and that can be corrected easily by only presenting to the button the 20-25 moderators. I like it because there's no callout neccessary and most folks won't know a trial member from a regular one. Also the default action is that new members graduate to full status automatically. What I see as it's primary drawback is that it seems like a fair amount of work to implement and there are probably more important items on the to do list.
posted by danostuporstar at 08:52 AM on April 19, 2005
I had in mind something like this:... Hey, I like that. Basically a user flagging system which is virtually transparent. Is this an rcade invention or has such a system been implemented elsewhere? * dano begins to hand JG his sample, then thinks better of it.
posted by danostuporstar at 01:41 PM on April 18, 2005
Obviously the best way to examine our members is with piss tests. We'd be all trendy that way too. rcade, I still don't get the original suggestion. Trialites would be able to post comments but not threads. Then when their comments please the masters, they FPP rights? Please keep signups free and open.

OK, I'm not renewing the domain. The new URL is http://www.qorg.org/spofiwiki ... pantheon please update accordingly. (And if ever you'd like to move the content to spofi proper, just say the word.) Thanks for the input.
posted by danostuporstar at 03:52 PM on March 24, 2005
I will probably renew it, but I know that personally I haven't put as much into it as I'd planned. Some folks have been good about the checking in and cleaning stuff up and maintaining the fantasy records, but generally it hasn't been used a whole lot, so I wanna make sure it still serves a useful purpose. (If I don't renew the domain, I can still host the content on another URL.)

heh, thanks for all the suggestions, guys. don't think i've seen any i could seriously take to the wife as an alternative to Solomon Ray Mills, but i do appreciate the effort and the laughs. (no offense, of course, to any SpoFi Seans and Stuarts...Sean would actually be a contender, but my wife is a jewish latina so it just kinda doesn't fit.) Sugar Ray seems to meet all the criteria. so it does. it's strange that it never even crossed my mind. i got Sugar Ray Leonard's autograph when i was like 12 when he was playing handball at my local park. cool memory.

(is that somewhat new?) i was gonna ask for a football versus soccer pony, but then i remembered i hate that topic. on preview...rcade is right! i have to specify mine is yahoo, which kinda screws the handle.
