I'm glad you posted that Clammy, because I would have done so otherwise. One of the funniest sites on the Intarweb.

What's this Intarweb? Some kind of new-fangled toaster?

I've been enjoying this flash game, Curveball.

posted by rocketman at 11:20 AM on July 01, 2004

I just wanted to say thanks for those first three links up there! Excellent stuff!

posted by blarp at 11:38 AM on July 01, 2004

Curveball is pretty cool, if not a bit maddening. 22,355 and made it to Level 7. Try and beat that record for suckiness.

posted by NoMich at 01:24 PM on July 01, 2004

I can't get past around 23,000 and Level 8. It seems easy at first, but by the time you get to Level 7, that curving ball is a sonofabitch.

posted by rocketman at 10:03 PM on July 01, 2004

gspm: Those replays are great. Especially how they do a quick animation of the celebration afterwards.

I don't have a link, but from the various message board chatter I am reading, I think Nomar's about to be traded.

posted by jerseygirl at 11:27 PM on July 01, 2004

i don't have a link either. but i just wanted to say that aside from coney's perfecto, i just got back from the greatest game i have ever witnessed.

posted by goddam at 11:40 PM on July 01, 2004

Jerseygirl - do you have any idea where?

posted by dusted at 11:58 PM on July 01, 2004

there are weird rumors, and that's what they are now -- rumors at this point. here's what i know: nomar didn't play tonight, in a 13 inning game against the yankees. apparently, he asked to be benched. i can't say if that's true or not. it's odd that he didn't play at all, even to pinch hit. also, arroyo was warming up in the pen. he's supposed to start for boston tomorrow night. here's what i know from sosh and the others... there was, apparently, a call into NESN from the Red Sox for some air time for a press conference. it was abruptly canceled after the red sox lost tonight. the rumor goes like this: Sox get: Odalis Perez and Carlos Delgado Jays get: Cesar Izturis and minor-league pitcher Dodgers get: Nomar and Kim delgado is supposed to start his AAA rehab on Friday. Kim is working through his minor league rehab now.

posted by jerseygirl at 12:11 AM on July 02, 2004

Actually, strike that for now. I have a feeling Nomar's going to be traded, but the "to whom" part keeps changing, so it's all up in the air. The ARod Trade was a fantastic learning experience with this stuff... even though it ended up sucking. Cubs (Clement) and Angels (Eckstein/R. Ortiz) are being mentioned now also as trade partners. Something's going to happen.

posted by jerseygirl at 12:41 AM on July 02, 2004

i heard he sat out because he was sore. doesn't surprise me if something happens. late in the game he seemed to be the only one sitting on the bench when the rest of the team was standing on the top step.

posted by goddam at 12:53 AM on July 02, 2004

You all can have Nomo too. Working on the mix as I type this.

posted by jasonspaceman at 01:51 AM on July 02, 2004

We've had Nomo. Thanks.

posted by jerseygirl at 01:59 AM on July 02, 2004

Your unbridled enthusiasm just made me laugh.

posted by jasonspaceman at 08:07 AM on July 02, 2004

Well, if Nomar does get traded, you'll have scooped the entire New England media by at least two days, because there's no mention of it here.

posted by yerfatma at 09:38 AM on July 02, 2004

Sox get: Odalis Perez and Carlos Delgado Jays get: Cesar Izturis and minor-league pitcher Dodgers get: Nomar and Kim Um, I think whoever came up with that rumour must think that Riccardi is a fucking moron. There is no way that Delgado is traded for only a previously-traded-away shortstop and a minor-league pitcher. This must be the same rumour-monger that had the Jays trading Delgado to the Dodgers for an anti-Moneyball OF (Encarncion) and a player THAT DIDN'T EVEN EXIST.

posted by grum@work at 10:14 AM on July 02, 2004

SOSH scooped. Not me.

Grum, you really want to give Vince Carter--Vince Carter!--the impression you're a cheap bastard? I don't think so.

baseball pitching game. has a worthy learning curve. don't surrender a walk or a hit (find your inner Gagne, well the Gagne that gets people out, not the Gagne that gives up hits and runs yet manages to get the save) to advance. hey, I like the link dump - yeesh, i've given 7 links in this thread. 7 links i figure would garner no more than 2 comments on the front page so it is worth it. i guess.

Another article on Euro2004. While flying back from Euro 2004, I caught the movie "Shattered Glass" on Air France about TNR fabricator Stephen Glass. I was surprised to see that the Executive Producer was Tom Cruise. Interesting flick, I recommend it. And I gotta get some pictures out from Lisbon & Porto. I walked into a shitstorm at work when I came back this week. We are one of the investment firms that need to settle with Spitzer and the SEC, so I'll get them out as soon as I can categorize them. I wouldn't want to post all my boring pictures.

Quebec City's WHA franchise to be called.... the Nordiks. The NHL warned the Nordiks not to use the modified name because the more established league still owns the rights to the Nordiques name. "There may be problems on that front but we're ready. To give the name back to Quebec City residents, any legal hassles will be worth it."

posted by gspm at 01:39 PM on July 15, 2004

heh, that mp3 was funny. it would probably be at least +10 funnier if I had ever heard any of those Bud Light adverts.

Re: Nordiks This is the same stunt the CFL tried to pull with the NFL when it named their expansion franchise, the Balitmore Colts. It's nothing more than a publicity stunt to get media attention.
