Ditto the first few comments about enjoying the not-so-often-heard stories. I don't usually delve too hard looking for those, so it's nice to not have to delve for them.
And woot woot, Great Yahoo Member Influx of 2005! I was among that group. Five year reunion party, anyone?

I've been a (semi)regular member and reader of this site since I was 15, and compared to many other forum-style sites I'd been a member of in the years before and after that, SpoFi is remarkably clean. If a kid has internet access, they're going to be exposed to inappropriate language in some way or another, and honestly, seeing it in a well-moderated setting such as this one would probably be good for them. I've always been really impressed by how mature discussions on this site (usually) are, and it's why I continue to be a member here four years later and try to be active.
That's my two cents on it.

Regardless of 86 being kind of drunk, I think they have the right of it. Because of the phrase in the second tiebreaker that says "have not played an equal number of home games", I would think that it would indeed be defunct, because the one game played would not be counted, due to that rule. The only thing that confuses me is the last part of that rule, "not including any "odd" games". By "odd", it means that in a three-way tie, each club must have had an equal number of home and away games against each of the other clubs, possibly?
I haven't the foggiest. Situations like this are just interesting to me.

After putting my list together, I realize how ridiculously odd my taste in music is. I'll probably put it up on here as well as including it in the letter.

Another minor note on the auto-login. When I jump directly to a post page (ie from the feed on my iGoogle), I am not logged in, but if I go to the homepage first, I am logged in. This also works going from the post page to the home page, I'm not logged in on the post, but as soon as I go to the home page, I am.
And if it matters: Mac OS X ver. 10.5.6, running Firefox 3.0.5.

my faves run like this:
Cardinals (the MLB type, not the NFL type) - make a move this offseason for something. pretty please. starting pitching would be nice. Lightning (NHL) - try not to finish last in the league, you're really not THAT bad of a team. Spurs FC - win the Carling Cup, and pick up a couple of wins to get out of the relegation stew. Ravens - win a game in the playoffs.
hope all of your years are beginning well!

Quite an interesting thread. I'm a bit of an oddball on this one. My sports allegiances lie purely by chance. All of them correlate to who was good or who I had the opportunity to see growing up. I saw them good, and stuck to them.
In the case of the St. Louis Cardinals, they're the one team geographically close to me (ish, I'm from Iowa). My parents took me on a trip to both Wrigley Field (Twins @ Cubs) and Busch Stadium (Cubs @ Cardinals) in the summer of 1999. I saw both Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa in their primes (back before steroids were a big thing)... and McGwire chanced to play better than Sosa. I liked McGwire, so I liked the Cardinals, and I've stuck to it. The family thing, didn't work, although my father tried to get me to become a Yankees fan. All that did is make me like the Red Sox. And as I said, I'm from the middle of Iowa. No professional sports teams particularly close, unless you coulnt single-A baseball.
The Baltimore Ravens. I started watching football in 2000. The year the Ravens won the Super Bowl. I liked it, so I stuck to them, and I've been with it ever since.
The Tampa Bay Lightning. Same deal, started watching hockey in 2004, when they won the Stanley Cup. Stuck with it.
yeah, like I said, a bit different than most.

I'm a little disappointed by the Richards deal. The Big Three in Tampa are now no more, and the Lightning lost a great center. However, they picked up some talent that can MAYBE put them back in the running next year. Of course, they do play in the Southeast, so anything is possible.
