the kid certainly has captain worthy numbers but i wonder, even with his great stats, will his word carry much weight with some of the older players on the team

i dont think hes gonna be good for much more than era of around 4 and maybe 9 victories but id rather he suck in a yankee jersey then dominate in a redsox jersey

By the way, of course Lester will be a good pitcher in years to come. i just wish you didnt distort my comment so that you thought i was denying the fact that Lester is a promising kid but that doesnt mean he has contributed this year and we both know he, along with the rest of the bullpen haven't done so great.

Venicemenace, 2 elderly outfielders? a little bit of a stretch. 2 100+ RBI guys. Anyway, Posado been battling injury, A-Rods had a virus for a week or two, Pavano just got injured AGAIN, Farnsworth has had a bad back all year, CANO just got back after getting hurt around the all-star break, and Mussina always has back trouble. Un-expected starters/contributers:Melky Cabrea, Sal Fasano, Arron Guiel, Ron Vallone, Craig Wilson, Procter who pitches virtually every day, Andy Phillips, Bubba Crosby, & Bernie Williams (huge help! and he wasnt evenn gonna come back and wasn't expecting any playing time.)

the red sox forfitted their playoff spot as soon as the last out was recorded in the five game slaughtering of bostons beloved BoSox. One huge difference between the yanks and sox is thee yankees scrubs and back ups can hold down the fort and more in the midst of key injuries, (i wont even go in to the performance by general management at the deadline, cough, ABREU, LIDLE, WILSON, FASANO, cough) where as guys like lopez, lester, kapler, cora etc. can't do much more than watch baseballs flying by them- by them in the field and by them at the plate. STRIKE 3, THE REDSOX ARE OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS!!

How could u take down the park where mickey mantle, babe ruth, lou gherig, joe dimaggio, reggie jackson, don matingly, yogi berra, derek jeter, alex rodriguex and so many more without-a-doubt hall of famers called/call home? It saddens me. However, on a lighter note, when i first heard of the new stadium in an article on the cbs or abc website it said they will keep the stadium as a sort-of part with some seats intact for concerts and stuff. they are also going to keep the plaques out in left field.

i think its mainly because teams are starting to see these guys on the mound for their 3rd,4th,and 5th times and hitters can now have some sort of gameplan when they go up to the plate.

I think Clemens deserves it if thats what he really wanted however i dont think he wouldve liked that too much. would he be the #1 guy in Boston? #2? And by the way, if you compare stats he is the best pitcher of all time plus hes got cy youngs, all-star games and world series rings

As you can probably tell from my name i am a Yankees fan. Having said that i would agree that my opions might not always be objectional but i think without a doubt Mariano Rivera is one of the best closers of all time, will make first hall of fame ballot and should have his number retired. Also, not to take anything away from Mo but he is competing with less guys than any other position for the top spot of all time. That is because (and ppl seem to 4get this) closers weren't always around. the closer idea was basically thought up in the 50s and 60s and as a result there are less noteable closers in history than most position besides mabye middle relief/long relief

ronaldo should't even be mentioned in the same sentance as pele and marradonna. Im not so sure he is even in the top ten. is he better than George Best? is he better than franz bechembauer (Sorry for spelling) plus even in todays game many guys have a good case against him when there carreers get to the same stage as his is now like ronaldhino and henry and mabey even wayne rooney

I agree that the U.S. had no intensity. Even when two of the the Czech's players were injured (one came beack into the game) the U.S could barely get close enought to even see the goal. Very disapointing! i do however like when Bruce Arena called out players like Landon Donovan and Marcus Beasly because they deserve it. Landon keeps talking about how everyone needs to believe but it seemed like he didnt today. The U.S. should be thankful if they keep playing like they did today and even advance to the second round

Everyone always seems to look down on the yankees but they're right up at the top of the division and are getting along fine. As for willis or soriano i think either one is a good move but i think they should only give up cano for soriano and see if they can work out a deal for mabey andy phillips who is pretty young and on track to be descent, some money and mabey a guy like wright for willis

i dont think the sox came out of this in any better of a situation than before they made the trade because frankly as yerfatma put it, alex gonzales sucks. as for crisp, ya hes a decent center fielder but to get him they gave up a good reliever, (which will come back to bite them if any of their releivers get injured, esspecially timlin who is gettin old) and marte which will also come back to haunt them unless the ever less physically fit Mike Lowell somehow shoots back to the cream of the crop in terms of third baseman which not many people would bet on

Like i said before i think that football players earn a celebration with all the effort they put into scoring a td but i also think they should show a little more "fire and emotion" and emotion when they screw up and drop a pass. Take soccer for example, their powndin the ground when they miss a goal but go crazy when they score. Im fine with that

The only problem i have with recievers celebrating is that every time they drop a pass they yell at the refs to throw a flag. tisk, tisk The NFL and all defensive players in the league need to stop bitchin about offensive T.D celebrations and the wide recievers and such need to stop bitchin about money and flags everywhere they go!

Aaron Small wont need wins because hes gonna be in the bullpen second, Pavano knows what its like playing under pressure, he was in the world series remember AT YANKEE STADIUM so i dont think the stadium should be a problem now that the fans are cheering for him. pshh Even if he isn't the cy young pitcher he was three years ago he Randy Johnson still has a lot of dominating performences in him and will be a 15-20 game winner and mabey even a few more now that he will be getting even more run support As for Chacon, i think you are right that he wont do as well for the same reason he didnt do well in Colorado but i think he will get 10-12 wins easy and be an above .500 pitcher

first of all weedy, I said Bill Mueller was a superstar fielder, which he is, and second if you want to talk about the Yankees pitching staff, talk about this: Randy Johnson and Mike Mussina are both healthy, Shaun Chacon is just going to get better with expierience, as is Ching-Mang Wang. also now Jaret wright (who i have to admit is iffy) is back and so is Carl Pavono who played a big wrole in the Marlins success. As for their bullpen; Mariano Rivera is coming off his best year ever, Aaron Small, who was an intricate part of the Yankees when they needed someone to step up is now able to move to the bull-pen (which is good because of his limited arm strength) and the Yanks also aquired Mike Kyers who is a decent middle relief guy. So, Weedy, im not worried at all. And by the way, I don't think its early to call Robinson Cano an up and coming star. The difference between him and Hinske is Cano will be learning and working with guys like Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, and Alex Rodriguez; natural leaders, and players wih or had a lot of skill. Cano will also be learning from Joe Torre who is easily one of the best managers in the MLB. Soo mark my words: in 3-6 years Robinson Cano will be if not the best, one of the best 2nd basemen in baseball, and will be considered, yes, a SUPERSTAR

Although the Jays have improved so much in the off-season their offense is bareley above average at best. And lets be honest, no matter how good your pitching rotation is, when you are facing a lineup such as the Yankees which has the AL MVP, the two top run scorers in the AL, an up-and-coming superstar hitter in Robinson Canoe, as well as some other guys such as gary Sheffield who hit 30,40 or 50 Hr's each season, no matter what you will give up runs. Or lets take the Red Sox as an example, their pitching is above average this year, they have two of the MLB's biggest power threats, an underated superstar fielder in Bill Mueler, and a catcher that almost every pitcher in the Major Leagues would want to work with because of his leadership and knowledge behind the plate. And so, even if the Jays didn't have week spots at second and right field, and an overload of corner infielders with a skill level ranging from allstar to decent, they wouldn't be able to contend with the top of the AL east. I would also like to say that because the Blue Jays haven't improved their team enough to contend in their division, that the most improved, or "MVP" of teams involed in offseason aquisations are the Rangers who recenlty aquired Kevin Millwood and have a chance of getting Roger Clemons puts them at the top of their div. and makes them the the most imroved team in 06. Or atleast best improved, shall i say, compared to the challengers they will face.

Its good that Lawton admitted to steroids after being caught red-handed but lets be honest, we are sinking pretty low if a "professional" baseball player cheats and then admitts to cheating satisfies us!! Major League Baseball has to make it even more clear that it is not okay to take steroids. I know they have a harsher punishment then ever before which is a 50 game suspension for using steroids once but it should be atleast a 100 hundred game suspension because we have to get it through the heads of these dominance-hungry, or in many cases fading players without much skill that it isn't okay to take roids!
