Bettman, listen up

Excellent point brought up there...I love the idea of three pts for a win and zip for the loss (even though the Bruins are tying, then losing every time they hit the ice lately)....it brings importance back into a win, and makes the win that much more valuable in the end of season playoff runs....

Not a real big surprise....Papi is a DH mostly...the Rodney Dangerfields of baseball....sure, they can give you a smile here and there, make U laugh, but if you cannot be used in the field on an everyday basis.... (Although - I find it hard to believe he would do worse than Manny playing the field, but maybe thats just me....)

Give TO some rhymes to go with his touchdown celebrations? Tell him to let God into his life, so he can whip out a bible for his NEXT touchdown celebration? (wonder what the fine would be on THAT little stunt....) Perhaps I am just harsh...but DAMN....Enough T.O. already...he is done, let him BE DONE till next year....

I can't...not a one... OH WAIT ... did that amazing talent Corrie Sanders, did Vitali fight him, or was that his brother???

OK sorry...off topic there...but, shouldn't news stories contain some actual story? Who DOESN'T know the NFL wants a team in LA??? He has practically TATTOOED it on his forhead for the last three years now...but no one comes close to a package that will please him (See TEXANS deal...$1B)...seems to me without a BILLION dollar package, it is all fluff....

Yankees stay alive

"Simply overpaying guys doesn't gaurantee success...look at the NY Rangers of the past 10 years..." True - and look where hockey ended up..... I DO agree with MOST of what everyone says about the Yankees - even though I am a Sox fan...but I DO feel that they are creating a competition problem for small market teams...if a small market team is lucky enough to get a young guy who performes well, he is gone as soon as he hits free agent status - then subsequently overpaid by the teams (not JUST Yankees...) who are in the running for playoffs....I just think it is time for some effective revenue sharing in baseball....like football, it should be a competition, not a spending spree....and everyone should have the same amounts to spend on their team (whether or not the owners WILL actually spend it is their OWN choice) it will show the fans who is SERIOUS about winning, and who just wants to be profitable team....

"they go way overboard and pay a player way too much and he under performs, but who was hurt more, the Yankees or baseball? " How does this NOT hurt baseball overall? They are inflating salaries for EACH instance that they overpay someone....it is a chain reaction - pay a pitcher with 20 wins last year TWICE what he is worth, and the next 20 game winner asks for THAT, plus a few....and so on and so on and so on....I truly don't mean to offend, and perhaps I just don't know enough on the subject, but seems like Steinbrenner has created a spending MONSTER, and for a team to compete, they have to do the same....

posted by sinisterfoot at 09:38 AM on October 10, 2005

but - it shouldn't be about who can spend the most either....just my humble opinion, but I think baseball NEEDS a salary cap system that WORKS - so a small market team can develope their young guys, and still be able to grab a free agent here and there to help out....if things continue status quo - it will only be the richest teams at the end of the year...

Yes - I dislike the Yankees (I am from Boston, it is the LAW), but - I would just rather see the White Sox pull one out this year...the Yankees have won enough WS, and mostly - it was due to them being able to BUY the best players...to me, they (and the Red Sox for that matter) need to look at how THEIR payroll effects how other teams can (or CAN'T) compete with them....and I think Chicago needs a break after having their Cubs come so close, to be spoiled by some dingbat grabbing a foul ball...

That's "Sundin" ... with one eye

I say....leave it as an option....like they USED to do with helmets....if some nut wants to skate around with an exposed cranium - let him!!! Yeah - stinks if he skates for your team and gets hurt - but, this is all a part of it....I think the goalies SHOULD have to wear them (I am not THAT crazy) but - I think back to Craig Mactavish a few years back....he was the last without a helmet, and I don't recall any concussions or headache issues with him - perhaps the helmet gives these guys a little too much sense of security???

Just some quick math here... $20,500,000.00 = 41 games @ $25.00 per seat (which, at least in Boston, doesn't even GET YOU IN THE RINK) in JUST TICKETS ALONE... Not included: Parking, Merchandising, TV contracts, OR Concessions Now - how in the hell can these owners be claiming all the losses that they do. WE SEE THE GAMES....WE SEE THE SEATS BEING FILLED MOST OF THE TIME....WE SEE THE $10 BAGS OF POPCORN SCATTERED ON THE FLOOR AFTER THE GAME.....WE PAY THE $40 PARKING TO SEE OUR TEAM PLAY..... Lost revenue my ass......

The argument from the Players Union is that the owners have not lost nearly as much as they claim they have - are these losses as in "It took me $100 mil to field a team, and took in only $75 mil" or "I expected to make $150 mil in profits, but only made $75 mil - so therefore, I lost $75 mil"???? Being from Boston, where a $30 seat is WAY up high, in the corners....and still selling out the majority of games....one wonders just how much a team could actually "lose"

DIFFERENT YES...but, I don't see them falling to pieces either....just simply play to Cassell or Fluties strengths, cover their weaknesses (ever see Brady throw an ACCURATE deep ball? - Me either....the recievers get TO the ball, not the ball getting to the reciever)....just like they have done defensively for two+ years.....

OK - I have watched quietly for a while to these posts, but fely COMPELLED to chime in here for this one....The Pats success is NOT due to Brady, but to a TEAM concept, take a look at his #'s....CLOSELY - U will see he is a decent QB...it is the TEAM that surrounds him that makes him special. For THAT, you need a good management, scouting, and TEACHERS of the scheme...while I give him ALL THE CREDIT HE DESERVES (Pats fan for life), I also know that the defense had not only got them to their first SB, it won it for them too...
