I would rather my team win the world series and have to wait 25 years or more for the next playoff appearance, than to never win it all.

The call was terrible. Sure, it was a routine play, but that doesn't mean the Cards don't have to make the play.
You don't commit three errors and expect to win too many playoff games.
The Cards had three errors in game six of the World Series last year.

Four year guaranteed scholarships (that even players who go pro can take advantage of after their career is over) would be the easiest first step towards an equitable system of "paying" players.

One thing nice about his change of heart is that maybe the Leborn decision has shown some players that money is not everything when you're already rich,
Lebron actually took less money to play for Miami.

I'm a fan of a small market team, but think the owners made this mess. With the latest CBA, a player's current team can offer them more than anyone else when they become a free agent.
On paper this is good for small market teams, but if the player wants to leave, it's in the player's best interest to do what Paul is trying to do, get traded to the team you'd rather have offer you the max contract.
Unless if the NBA just plans on vetoing every trade, this is going to be a huge issue.

Ryan Braun and Troy Tulowitzki are both signed with their teams through 2020.

I'm guessing that by the time I have the money to buy a share, they won't be available anymore. To me, besides being able to attend the shareholder meeting, the coolest benefit is that it means you're entitled to a super bowl ring if/when they win one (you just have to pay for it).

Why? When he coached the Brewers after Yost was fired, he made exactly the same type of mistakes Yost made (having LOOGYs face right handed batters, leaving pitchers in to long, letting Suppan touch a baseball in the playoffs).

I think the successful team Favre was referring to was the team as he left it, which made it to the NFC championship game and was a play away from the Superbowl.
That team had some pretty serious flaws, which were revealed and mostly patched over the next two years.
In retrospect, I'm glad that Favre left because if he hadn't forced the trade, the Packers would likely have been unable to draft Clay Matthews III.

If The Heat come back humbled a little by the experience, it'll go a long way towards redeeming themselves next year. They need to save the celebrating for after they've won it all.
Wasn't a Heat celebration in game 2 part of the spark that lit up the Mavs?

I wonder if both teams will be able to field a full lineup, given the number of concussions they'll inflict on each other.
It's fine, they all did badly on the initial tests on purpose. Both rinks may need to look into making their penalty boxes larger though.

This reminds me of something that happened at a minor league hockey game. I was sitting near the visiting team bench when a player let a string of obscenities fly at an official over a non-call. A mom nearby went off on the player for saying that sort of thing in front of impressionable kids.

What I'd like to see (in any sports really) is an entire conference (or two) outside of North America. It might take a while for all of the conferences to be competitive with each other but it would be cool for the league finals to be something like the Lakers vs. Rome's Gladiators.

One word of warning for the teams that delay service time. The Brewers did it to Ryan Braun in 2007. The team ended up losing the division by two games that season. If they would have brought him up earlier, maybe, just maybe they would have made the playoffs.

What's a comparable trick for a player?
I'm not a big fan of delaying service time, but the Players' Association agreed to the rules. The next time the collective bargaining agreement is up, the players could probably put an end to it if they agreed to some other concession.

My counter-proposal is that schools should be required to give any scholarship athlete fully paid tuition (doesn't have to include room and board, but maybe it should) until they earn their degree. Even if a student is there one year before they try for the NBA draft, then the school should be required to allow the player to still have the option of an education on the university's dime.

There's one thing the IOC should consider that gives ABC/ESPN an edge (and makes them evil). ESPN really seems to go to the mat promoting the sports that appear on it and ABC and almost ignoring those that don't.
If ABC got the Olympics, ESPN would probably be hyping events with months to go until the games.
