Royals fire Hillman, select Yost as replacement: There is a certain star-crossed irony that Trey Hillman’s tenure as the Royals’ manager came to an end Thursday afternoon after his club showed the sort of clutch hitting and competent bullpen work that it so often lacked. Former Milwaukee manager Ned Yost replaced Hillman effective immediately and will serve for the remainder of the season.

Ned Yost can be poison for a bullpen, but he can be a good manager for young players. Unfortunately, he also has a secret crush on Jason Kendall.

Hillman is going to succeed somewhere in the Majors. His problems in Kansas City were geographic. Nobody is going to do well with those resources.

rcade,
When I 1st heard the news (as a Royals fan), I thought the same thing. Then I read this.
Now I am not sure so sure he wasn't part of the problem (at least for the Dayton Moore era).

Ned Yost? Seriously? Hillman might not be the guy in KC, but Yost DEFINITELY isn't the guy.

"There we go! These deck chairs are definitely in the right position now. Now, what is the captain saying about an iceberg?"

You wish, grum. More like "I didn't catch it all, but I think he said to try to widen the crack in the hull! Keep pulling!"
