Don't Believe in Miracles: Four men's teams are skating for the gold medal in the Winter Olympics, according to SportsFilter columnist Weedy McSmokey. They aren't Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia and Switzerland.
Conclusion: hilarious! but Italy won't be last! Viva la...er nevermind.

Weedy, that's brilliant. Viva la Woodbridge!

Pure gold. Some great insight behind all the funny shit. You got my boss leering at me right now. She knows processing insurance quotes isn't that funny.

Re: Ryan Miller. He is on the so-called taxi squad, but your main point still stands: why the eff isn't he at least on the bench? He's very good and there is absolutely no reason why DiPietro should be suiting up instead of Miller.

I loved the column. To add to the Czechs credentials they also have Patrik Elias, who almost single handedly turned the Devils season around.

mr. mcsmokey, nice article. you have skillz. were you stoned when you wrote this. if you were, i'm even more impressed. i, being a new hockey fan, actually have been learning stuff about the game from reading what you canucks have to say on this site. i started being a fan in 2003 when I got to go out on the ice and in the lockerroom in edmonton. i jumped on the lightning bandwagon in '04 when I was living in florida, and have been to my first hockey games here in dallas this year. i was at the saturday afternoon shootout win vs. the Red Wings. that game really got me hooked. i also remember watching my host family's don cherry hockey tapes when I was in rookie ball in lethbridge and living in their basement. also, i like watching the games on tv here in dallas. some analyst named razor makes the games fun to watch. besides football, i find it the most exciting sport to watch in person. however, i could actually see stuff in person that i hadn't picked up on tv. i've even had the tv on msnbc all day watching olympic hockey. you canadiens keep up the hockey talk and i'll be peeking in to learn a thing or two. i'm totally fascinated by this sport right now 2 stupid questions I have. 1. how come the rink is bigger in international competition? 2. how big does your sack have to be to dive in front of a slap shot or screen the goalie in front of the net. Go USA ps goal by marion gaborik puts slovakia up over russia 4-3 with 3:28 to go. it looked like he shot that goal off of his opposite foot, nice goal

another great goal by gaborik puts the games away with :28 seconds to go. this kid's a stud. who does he play for

Weedy, if I still hit it, I'd load you up a steamroller. Instead, you'll have to just accept my humble thanks for writing this. So, uhhh ... thanks.

That's cool fraze - I barely hit it anymore either. I'm just not about to change my user profile and reintroduce myself. Thanks for the big ups, people!

Hockey players apparently only ever play for Cups. ...and almost never without one. That read is wicked entertaining, Weedy. I laughed, I cried (about something else)... and I used up the 15 minutes I saved by not switching to Geico.

Very witty and insightful look at the metal medal contenders. kudos and mooseheads to ya. ps...we need the rules for kokpar since puck slappen is alien to oklahoma, but there are a few nervous goats about.

In case anyone wasn't aware, there's a hot hot hockey thread dissecting today's games in the locker room right now. Not that there are games today in the locker room, that is, but—aw, you know what I meant.

Amazing article. I agree with your statement that Ryan Miller should be in it, simply because it is true. Miller isn't only the best American goalie right now, he is one of the top goalies in the league. The taxi squad is an absurd place for him to be.

Weedy just noticed that was your first column. Given that this one was extremely good, I am hoping that you feel motivated to write a few more in the future.

Don't worry Weedy, I'll burn one down for ya. Good read. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on a 1907Torino.Having only posted for a few months now, I do recognize some names(as I hope some of you do mine) I enjoy the banter and especially the well thought out writings. Many props to good hockey around the world, but being an american, Go USA. Though I am proud of all my Philadelphia Flyers Olympians.

Excellent work weedy. A+ and seven gold stars. Too bad for for you it takes eight gold stars to trade in for a free beer.

Good article about hockey, but what's even better is the obsession with speedskaters. Watching the short track B Final today, I can see why. Finished fourth on the ice, but first in my heart.

Yes, great column, Weedy! Loved all the "Did you know"'s. Sweden is full of vets -- it's just hard to tell because they're all blond and look like they're 17 Except Mats Sundin, of course.

Fantastic, Weedy. You MUST post more articles once we get in the medal round. Call it your mission in life (or at least for these Winter Games).
