Mighty No More*: At the start of the 2006-07 season, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim will be simply known as the Los Angeles Ducks of Anaheim**. There will also possibly be a change in the logos and uniforms. But will they drop Wild Wing?
At the same time, the research found strong support generally for preserving the history of the team in some way. I involuntarily smirked at that. Sorry. Actually, they had to move away from the movie tie-in eventually, though (I can't believe I'm saying this) I kindasorta like the logo and the color scheme, and I hope they keep it in some form.

Couldn't they have become the Killer Ducks, or the Venegeful Ducks, or the Angry Ducks, or the Fightin' Ducks or something? The Anaheim Ducks is just so blasé.

The Lucky Ducks? The Plucky Pucky Ducks? The Paraducks? The Ducks Deluxe? The Toilet Ducks? This opens up so many options!

Or the Down-producing Ducks. Or the Wicked Water Fowl. Or the Dangerous Ducks. Or the Anaheim Landslides....or something.

I thought they should change every other teams name to be more like Mighty Ducks of Anahiem. Flyers of Philadelphia rock, boo Devils of New Jersy. The Ducks haven't been the same since Coach Bombay left, but is important to preserve the memory of former Ducks greats such as Greg Goalberg, Charlie Conway and Adam Banks.

At last they severed the tie in to a childs movie. Smooth move, now we go out and spend a bundle of $ on new shirts etc., that will mean more money, to get some talented players. WAY TO GO HENRY!

Not bad, but my thread title would've been Anaheim sports team name controversy re: Ducks.

I'm with Hater. Go Flyers!! As for the Ducks...SaDucks Hussein, Osama bin Ducks, Ducks of Fortune, Freedom Duck-ers, geez, these are awful eh? I do hope they keep their logo somewhat.

Burke ain't no dummy. And this announcement was inevitable ever since Disney sold the team last year.

The Chinese Basketball Association, CBA, has the Shanghai Sharks that produced Yao Ming but a bit further North the Beijing Ducks hold court. They even wear white and teal. Some other CBA team names. Some interesting rules and history here including this two foreign players will not be allowed to play at the same time and in the same quarter.

Can't win for losing. Now people are nostagic about the Mighty part of Mighty Ducks? Just the Ducks is fine. If we can have just the Penguins, we can have just the Ducks.

I always thought The Mighty Ducks name and logo were too cartoonish for the NHL. I think the new logo should look more like this. and at least the Devils were named after a local legend and not some cliche disney sports movie. Devils rule! Flyers drool!

I think that they are not adding Loas Angeles. The Presse says that they will become the Anaheim Ducks.

It could have been worse, They could have been the Darkwing Ducks under Disney.

So, they are not becoming the Los Abgeles Ducks, so far. They are becoming the Anaheim Ducks. Sort of like the failed Blue Jays attempt to become the Jays and the ongoing attempt of the Devil Rays to become the Rays. They aren't moving yet.

I am not dissing them, I am a Ducks fan, actually. Funny, we always called them the Ducks as opposed to Mighty Ducks,s and they ARE the Ducks now. This just blew me away because this is not a small market team, this is the 2002-03 Western Conference Champs. However, I'm still gonna root for them as much as I do now next year. Well, one of the better things that comes out of this is that they'll get a new smbol, jerseys, etc. For a Ducks fan, it dun matter.

An absolutely horrible, ridiculous, embarrassing name from the start. Stupid looking logo. Pure genius, that one was!

It's about time Mighty Ducks name was changed even if it's just Ducks. Mighty Ducks was the dumbest nickname amongst the 4 major leagues. I read that the new owners were looking into getting the rights to the California Golden Seals name. I think that would have been better.

I am not dissing the name nor the team. I am saying that I'm a Ducks fan. Doesn't matter whether it's just Ducks or more. They are the Anaheim Ducks, and I am no less a fan today than yesterday. I lean for this move rather than against it. The thing was that the name was quite long before, and Anaheim was "Lost in Translation." Now, the name has more menaing. Despite being a loyal fan, I must admit the California/Anaheim Golden Seals would have sounded like a girls' volleyball team, no offense to female volleyball athletes. It just would stunk for an NHL franchise, in a league that is trying to adopt a "Fight Club" image. However, I am not against the image. It is bad, but notd in a bady way. The NBA becoming the thug league is bad in a bad way because it tells inner city youth that it is "cool" to sell drugs in the "hood" and be a gang member.

Being a Ducks fan, I am surprisingly ambivalent about this. My kids, on the other hand, will not be amused. If they do change the logo, going to the games will be just a little bit better next season if I don't have to hear "Where's Wild Wing? Mom, where's Wild Wing? WIIIIILD WIIIIING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition Ducks!!!

Well, the NHl was always trying to condemn the scuffles usual at games, or at least show apathy. After the lockout, they seem to be condoning it, which I like. I thought about the concept of Anaheim Ducks a little more, and I love it. We will miss Wild Wing, the jersey logo, and the alternate jerseys, but a new logo and new jerseys are a good idea. For us living in the LA/OC area, we'll get even more for our $10 worth.

If any other Disney movie should strike their fans as being a catchy team name, feel free to go for it! Maybe "Monsters Inc. of Anaheim."
