Raiders release former No. 1 overall pick Russell: Russell has been paid more than $5 million per win, more than $2 million per touchdown pass and more than $100,000 per completion. Russell, who won only seven of his 25 starts, will now likely be considered one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history.

I hope he gets a chance at some other team. I never can tell if someone is truly terrible until they leave Oakland. Randy Moss was washed up and terrible in Oakland, and then suddenly having a great year with Brady. He should go somewhere like Philly or maybe he should go to Washington and McNabb can help him pull himself together.

Maybe McNabb can put him on a diet and and completely change his work habits too.

Chunky Soup and a Mama presence in the locker room. It's like home.

Shanahan would probably like nothing better than to take a Raider castoff and make a soldier out of him. One more hot fireplace poker up Al Davis' behind.

I'm sure the Philly fans would love that signing. It would make McNabb's reception on draft day sound like a chorus of "Celebration".

Russell was all about what football gave to him, not what he gave to football. With his brains he will be broke and homeless in two years. at least the pressure is off Ryan Leaf. Russell is now the worst first round pick in the history of the NFL.

He is a great player. Get over it and coach this team on the field," Davis read from a letter he sent Kiffin before the firing. "That is what you were hired to do. We can win with this team."

Excuse me Mr. Davis, you\'ll have a better chance of a winning season using the Cleveland Indians roster in football season. Al Davis needs to step down before the Raiders go anywhere.

My god, when Jason Campbell is viewed as a huge upgrade over a former first pick of the NFL draft, it really says something. What I believe it says is the Raiders are adrift in the middle of HUGE body of water.

It says the draft is a crapshoot and Mel Kiper Jr.'s entire life is a lie.

It says talent and character are completely different qualities.

Now if only Denver could find a way to graft Tebow's head onto JR's body .....

He threw for 3100 yards and had a 68% completion percentage his senior year (28 TDs/8 INTs). I know not all college players and skills translate to the pros, but you don't just suddenly forget how to throw a football. I mean to go from 68% completion percentage to where he's consistently missing 5 yard out routes by 10 yards, there's something else going on there. A new environment may be that "something else".

I think a new environment should help, but he might need a little micromanaging. His weight was too high at the scouting combine and then he lost it by the time LSU had their workouts. And gained it back and weighed far too much at the Raiders. Jeff Garcia said Russell just didn't seem to be ready to carry the team.

I'm pretty sure that's called The Raider Effect.

You saying Mel's hair is a lie as well?

As an LSU fan, I knew JaMarcus was going to be a lousy pro. Just too many bad decisions. But hey, he can throw the ball through the uprights from the 50 yard-line while kneeling. I still think his physical tools are such that he could have a salvageable career (perhaps as a back-up) if he lands in the right spot with the right QB coach.

Don't even think about it.
