After Maryland Player's Death, Coach and Athletic Director Keep Their Jobs: At modern American universities, it is not unusual that the head football coach is the most powerful, and the highest-paid, individual.

That has rarely been more clear than it was on Tuesday, when the governing board at the University of Maryland looking into the death of a football player allowed the head coach and athletic director to keep their jobs, while accepting the unexpected retirement of the school's president, Wallace D. Loh.

Cleveland Browns Fire Hue Jackson: A day after the Cleveland Cavaliers fired coach Tyronn Lue, the Cleveland Browns fired Hue Jackson. The Browns are better this season but still just 2-5-1. Jackson departs with a 3-36-1 record at the helm. He was hoping Monday to convince management to let him take over the offense from new coordinator Todd Haley. That didn't go so well.

The Pace Mannion leader out of the gate is (drum roll please) me! Howard_T is 6 back in second and GoYouColts and NoMich are 17 back in third. Make your picks and pour one for Rondo citrus soda, a drink brand that fortunately went out of business three decades before "Rondo hocks a loogie" became a sports headline.

What the Hell Happened to Darius Miles? : Written by Darius Miles, edited by Quentin Richardson -- Dudes like me ain’t supposed to talk about this type of stuff. I’m about to tell you some real shit. Things I haven’t told anybody. But first, we gotta go back in time. We gotta go back to when the NBA was still the NBA. Way back when I had the pager with the two-way alert. I’m about to tell you the most Y2K story ever. I’m about to tell you how I almost died at Alonzo Mourning’s crib in the year 2000 on some dumb shit.

Usain Bolt scored two goals in his first professional soccer start: The first goal came from his speed but also featured a nice awareness of positioning, nutmegging the defender and going near post where the goalie was unsighted. Seems like he may have earned a contract!

The Avs tip a cap to the old time Rockies, Flyers go two-tone (no word on the return of the Cooperall pants), the Devils bring back the Green and Red, and at the risk of offering an opinion on a FPP, the 'Canes win.
