Chargers May Play Texans in Dallas: The use of San Diego's Qualcomm stadium to house refugees of the wildfires may move Sunday's NFL game to either Houston, the home of the visiting Texans, or Texas Stadium in Dallas, where the Cowboys have a bye week. Four years ago, fires chased the Chargers to a home game against the Dolphins at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe.
If the Texans were more of a legitimate contender in their division, I'm sure the other teams would be objecting to the additional home game for Houston.

well I think it would be wrong to host the game in or near Houston (Dallas is far to close) as it gives them an unfair "home" game. But for the chargers would hosting a game in Tempe, or San Francisco or anywhere else outside of Texas really be any worse than Miami having to host a "home" game in London this week?

bdaddy, don't you think that questions of "fairness" are a bit niggling at this point? This is an emergency measure, it's not being done to put a stick in someone's eye. Your stadium's full of refugees, you'll play where you can, you'll be at something of a disadvantage relative to what you would be at your home stadium no matter what.

Although Dallas is four hours from Houston, if I recall correctly, it's also a city that has a rivalry with Houston's NFL franchise that's reinforced by a yearly preseason trophy game. Locals will root for the Chargers in that game.

I wish it was in L.A.

Oh wait, LaDanian is from Waco and Norv gets honorary status as a former Cowboy coach. Go Chargers.

"Almost 50 members of the Chargers organization were forced to abandon their homes because of the wildfires." Not to mention the 850,000 others in So. California that have been forced to evacuate. Reality check . . . let's not loose sight of whats important. And before you ask: YES . . . I AM one of them. Just let them play. . .

Wrong. I am a local ... Me too -- born in Dallas and was a season ticket holder for years before moving to Florida. Only time I remember liking the Oilers was when Earl Campbell was playing for them.

Doesn't matter to me where they play. I gave up watching football when the Oilers slithered out of Texas and headed to Nashville

They should post-pone it. The Chargers have enough to do without having to deal with a game and travel. Or move it to the Rose Bowl and give all the proceeds back to the community.

When exactly would they play if they postponed the game?

Living close to the fires, and seeing smoke even right now, this game should be played. It is not right, 8 people have burned to death, 100,000 are homeless. This is something like Katrina, with regards to displacement of families. However, the NFL is not even considering not playing the game. I read in the papers today that it will be played Monday in Houston or Dallas.

The fires are a great tragedy (although when all is said and done, I think the numbers will show it's not a patch on Katrina), but I'm not quite sure I understand why you believe the game should not be played. Perhaps you can elaborate.

Wait a minute; did you just say the game should be played, then that it shouldn't be played, both within the same post? Because that's what it looks like, at least to me.

Here's a link to the Chargers vs. Dolphins game in Tempe.
I'm still pissed off about it.
