#1 vs #2 : Rematch of last years 25-22 thriller won by Texas, but Texas has replaced Vince Young with redshirt freshman Colt McCoy, while Ohio State counters with fifth year senior Troy Smith, who is a good 'un. Should be a barn burner.

I'll be in heaven on Saturday. Penn State at Notre Dame at 3:30, followed by this game. I even got a dog sitter so I don't miss anything. It'll be a two-TV evening at Rancho De SummersEve as South Carolina plays Georgia at 7:45 in what could prove to be a very important early SEC match-up. If you think about it, you're better off scheduling the harder games early in the season because if you lose, you can recover in the polls. If you lose late in the season you're cooked.

Yes, I neglected to mention those games SummersEve, thanks for fixin' my oversight. Kudos to Miami and Fla. State for bringing us fans a great matchup last week, too.

I have a feeling all the games mentioned above are going to be right down to the wire type games. I'm looking forward to the Penn State game. The offense didn't run the ball well last week. Hopefully Joe Pa will find the answer to that. We are...Penn State!!! Georgia-South Carolina will be a battle X 10. These schools don't like each other at all. It's even more intense with Spurrier being there. Go Dawgs!!!

If you think about it, it's not like they could've scheduled OSU v UT in November. You can only play non-conference opponents the first four games.
posted by Ufez Jones at 09:26 AM on September 07, 2006
For the most part you're right, Ufez. But the 12 game schedule does give a bit more flexiblity. There are a handful of teams with a late non-con games in addition to their traditional rivalries. Those games are mismatches for now (i.e. Michigan vs Ball State, Nov. 4 or Penn State vs Temple, Nov 11) as teams had to fill out the schedules on relatively late notice, but it could offer an oppurtunity for a late season marquee non-con game. My point is who's going to take that risk, since you can't recover in the polls at that point in the season?

I don't know about other Texas fans but I am tired of hearing about how Vince Young is all we had last year you don't go undefeated and win a championship without defense, now don't get me wrong I am a huge VY fan.Now as far as the game this saturday it will be the same outcome as last year Texas wins!!!!!!!!!!

I agree. That team was far more than just VY. OSU's D looked suspect in the first game, and I think Texas will capitalize.

Ted Ginn isnt even that great of a receiver. All he has is speed, and that doesnt make u a great receiver. The biggest game of his carrer was against a Notre Dame secondary that everydody threw on. How many yards did he have against Texas last year anyway....
posted by the don at 10:53 PM on September 07, 2006
I wouldn't underestimate Ginn, not with Tarell Brown out due to stupidity. Ginn will draw double coverage, and Texas WILL NOT kick to him if they can help it.

This is my first big gameweek since moving to Austin and it's all we're hearing about on TV and radio. From the players and coaches, there hasn't been a lot of talk about Brown starring in Blunts and Guns; they seem to be reasonably media savvy. Bring it on, OSU. Let's see what you got.

I live in Austin, so I'm a horns fan by default. OSU is a great team. Smith and Ginn can be very scary. Ginn only had a net 6 yards last year, but was being covered by Huff. I think this year he is going to get a lot more chances. However, TX defense is no slouch. Horns win 13-10.

OSU's D looked suspect in the first game OSU's D gave up 172 yds on 26 attempts(6.6 Y/A) to the NCAA's leading returning rusher from last year, Garrett Wolfe. They also held him to 0 rushing TD's, his score came on a pass. They recorded 4 sacks and an interception. Yes they gave up some rushing yards, oh well. They gave up no rushing TD's. With nine new starters on defense facing Wolfe, not a bad outcome no rushing TD's. This week will be a much better indicator of those nine new starters though. I am glad they are broken in. The true question for you Texas fans is, will Colt McCoy choke? This is not the North Texas Mean Green this week. This is real college football.

Actually, jojmfd1, Northern Illinois and North Texas both are pretty decent programs (for their size, especially), and always face some pretty darn tough non-conference foes. Both teams have proven quite capable of pulling off an upset or two in recent memory.

Troy Smith on the otherhand will get his ass knocked off in this game he will have to run because he won't have time to throw and when he runs is when he will pay for it our defense is too good. I was keeping my buckeyehole shut until this. It's one thing to root for your team ... entirely another to talk smack about stuff you undoubtedly know nothing about. OSU's OL, Troy Smith's mobility, his endurance, and his decision-making skills while moving = the absolute strengths of the team. And all this hype about McCoy ... even if I were a Texas faithful, I think I'd be saving the chirping until I saw him play against a team other than one that went 2-9 in the SunBelt conference. Having said that, it's hardly in the bag for either team. Texas is a quality team, OSU's defense annoyed me last week, and I unfortunately wouldn't be at all surprised if Texas won. Only way I'm surprised is if it's a blowout either way. I'm predicting 34-30, Ohio State.

I realize OSU didnt give up a rushing TD, but they still gave up 393 yards of offense. Also, NIU did throw an INT in the red zone. Dont count on that vs. UT.

I know it was not you that said that, I just didn't think I did anything that wrong with everything else going on in here. I at least addressed the score, and the penalty prior to bragging a little. Thanks mjk.

Thank you texan. The truth is the truth, Joe, painful as it may be. We lost any chance of winning with the fumble and Ohio State making us pay with an all-too-easy touchdown...OSU made it look easy against a pretty damn good defense. I'm sure it's been said somewhere on the web, but Colt McCoy is no Vince Young, even with his made-for TV name. That boy has the arm of a 6th grader and why Texas didn't keep running off tackle, I'll never know. Like Vince Lombardi once said (loosely) "Keep running 'til they stop you".
