USC Suspends QB Mark Sanchez Amidst Sexual Assault Allegations: So given ESPN's infatuation with the University of Southern California will they attempt to forget this as soon as possible, or will they finally begin to treat USC the way they do other schools?
I'd love to believe they would, but look at the free pass they give Duke Basketball compared to their hatred for Ohio State Football (sans Kirk Herbstreit for rather obvious reasons)

What scandal did they hush up about Duke basketball? I hate Duke basketball as much as anyone, but where is the dirt that brings ratings and publicity?

For starters? Both Chris Duhon and Carloz Boozer's parents were given jobs beyond what their respective skill would normally allow them to obtain at a higher rate of pay than they deserved. Oddly enough, both jobs involved working for companies owned by prominant Duke Alumni. Here is a link to a MS Word document outlining that and a bunch of other stories suggesting media bias and program corruption.

I don't see anything in that document discussing those allegations regarding Duhon and Boozer.

Look closer. It's not like a UNC fanboard would be more biased than ESPN.

I don't know that is matters where the information is found, but it does need to be supported by facts. I don't see any support for allegations of anyone ignoring NCAA violations. Since I am also a Duke hater, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing such facts.

The university takes charges of sexual assault seriously," Michael Jackson, USC vice president of student affairs, said Did anyone else find this line humorous?

What I want to know is which alumnus came up with the dough for the $200,000.00 bond.

He could have just paid $20,000 to a bail bondsman. Presumably, he has parents who would help. so seems like another arrogant kid, thinks he's special...that no women should refuse him.. Currently, he seems like someone that has been accused of something. No sense in making up characteristics that he may or may not have.

ESPN's "infatuation" with USC may have a little to do with the dominance of their football program the last 3 years, MassNole. I don't see the other sports programs at USC being covered in such a way that would suggest infatuation, or bias, with the U of SOCAL. As for allegations of free passes being given to the Duke basketball program, I don't recall much being made of those accusations by ANY network.

Please, FSU was more dominant than USC for a period of 14 years, and after 1993 ESPN made it their job to make FSU their bitch. Any allegations were major news. Now USC has had 2 players brought up on sexual assault charges (maybe 3, wasn't Eric Wright?), they had a player have a house purchased for their family, numerous academic troubles (LenDale White, Chauncey Washington, Whitney Lewis, etc.). They are not facing the ridicule other programs like FSU and OSU have faced in the past, despite a track record that will probably soon warrant an NCAA investigation. It will be funny when the team ESPN proclaimed the greatest ever will be 0-13 in the official record books.

I don't know, mass, I think they are trying to find some good dirt. This Reggie Bush thing indicates that people are paying close attention to the program.

Yeah, but it is Yahoo Sports who broke the Bush story, not E!SPN.

His family lives in South Orange County in Mission Viejo. It wouldn't be hard to get $20K against MV real estate. Sanchez is a really gifted kid who I didn't hear of getting into any trouble in HS. Arrogant? No. Confident? Yes. There may be more to the story than we've heard. Who knows, maybe the alleged victim's dad is a Notre Dame alum. ;0) (If that were the case, it might have been better to involve JDB)

Who knows, maybe the alleged victim's dad is a Notre Dame alum. ;0) (If that were the case, it might have been better to involve JDB) Maybe not, Toad. Even though Booty is number 1 on the depth chart, most at SC realize that Sanchez is probably better, even without taking a snap yet. He has (or, maybe now, HAD) huge potential, was well ahead of Palmer or Leinert at this stage in his development, so this is a giant blow to SC's program. BTW, gifted kids are sometimes the ones who think they're never gonna get caught. People have probably been telling the kid his whole life how swell he is, and growing up in South OC didn't help his ego either. A big wakeup call.....

Yeah, I watched him take quite a few snaps at MV High. He's definitely gifted. I heard the same from Ed Ogeron when he was the asst. head coach at SC. However, I've not seen JDB play; he also has quite a storied background. There's no doubt that this could be a huge blow to the SC program. As fas as growing up in So. OC, that doesn't condem him to a massive ego. Matt Leinart grew up there too; he seems to have turned out OK, same with Palmer. I think we have to give the benefit of the doubt to Mark until all of the facts are in. If he's really committed a crime, he's screwed up a multi-million dollar future.

Sorry, guess I've been watching too much "Laguna Beach" and "Real Housewives of the OC"....hahaha....So you're not all like that, eh? Just kidding. Leinert has always impressed me with the way he handles himself, seems like a pretty down-to earth guy. And you're right, everyone needs to realize Sanchez is innocent until proven otherwise. I hope it all works out ok for him. Actually, the thing that's got me more pisssed than anything else right now is this whole Reggie Bush family stuff. Why the hell couldn't everyone involved just waited until the guy signed on the dotted line??

ESPN or any other news channel will gladly bring down any high profile athletic program just for the publicity.
