I voted for Santana. They sent my ballot back though. Something about me not being a baseball writer. Or knowing too much about baseball. Not sure. If Colon wins though, I think it's safe to assume that Dontrelle will get the NL Cy.

Best of the mediocre. Man, if Roy Halladay's leg had stayed in one piece...

it should've been a toss up between Mo and Santana. but until the voters learn that wins are probably the one stat least dependent on the pitcher, this stuff is gonna happen. Santana was just flat out better in the categories that matter.

It is becoming the most important part of any team but these guy still have there anti-closer bias. I'd much rather someone who can pitch 7-9 innings of good baseball than someone who can pitch one inning of spectacular baseball. The whole "closer importance" thing has been and will continue to be debatable; hence the lack of a collective voice within baseball writers either about their worth.

Santana was just flat out better in the categories that matter. Colon was better down the stretch than Santana was; he came up with big performances when it mattered. Santana and Colon's teams were both in the hunt, the difference is that Colon pitched his team into the playoffs; Santana didn't dominate like that when it counted.

No matter how good your starters are the closer can always come out and blow the game for your team. The game really hinges on their performance (unless it's a blow out)

That's a self-fulfilling prophecy, Hater. If your starters all suck balls, you can have the best closer in the world and it won't do you any good. Now ... bring on more Colon jokes!

dfleming, I'd say that isolating the stretch run just makes the case for Santana more convincing... Santana: 9-2, 107.1 IP, 95 SO, 7 HR, .192 BAA, 1.52 ERA Colon: 10-3, 99.0 IP, 68 SO, 15 HR, .266 BAA, 3.55 ERA

Santana had a great year but he didnt det the run support. He certainly pitrched well enoug to be a 20 game winner. However he didnt win 20 games. I am quite happy with Colon winning the award.

I'd say that isolating the stretch run just makes the case for Santana more convincing... Same here. I am quite happy with Colon winning the award. Not me. Big deal he won more games for a better team, what a monumental accomplishment.

Best of the mediocre. Man, if Roy Halladay's leg had stayed in one piece... I hear ya, man. I hear ya. Closers should win Cy Young awards when pinch-hitters win Silver Slugger awards.

Except for his getting to beat up on the Rangers several times a year, Colon would just be a mediocre pitcher.

As opposed to santana beating up on the royals?

Bah. There's no way a closer should ever win the Cy Young award. Not that there is any real Cy Young candidate in the AL this year, but still, at least it went to a starter.

Congratulations, Shrek! wait, they gave out the AL MVP already?

If Colon wins I didn't have the heart to say anything...

wait, they gave out the AL MVP already? Mench had a surprisingly good season and all, but I don't think he's up for MVP. (seriously, how many ballplayers nicknamed Shrek are there these days?)

Its a shame that relievers don't get the recognition they deserve. It is becoming the most important part of any team but these guy still have there anti-closer bias. Mo deserved it more than colon more than Santana. Bullshite I say bullshite. More anti-yankee sentiment that seems to be a leauge wide condition.
